Due to short supply of M2s and over 300 US dealerships, US dealers are getting anywhere from 0 (low-volume M/M235i sales) to 18 (high-volume M/M235i sales) M2 allocations for this calendar year.

The expected M2 customer allocation info, for the rest of the year, will be communicated to the dealer through their regional sales rep. Some dealers got this in Feb, some were in the dark until March or April. If a dealer does not yet have this allocation info, they may have it at a later date or not at all.

The reason some dealers may be incredulous by this process is that it's rather unprecedented. Most model allocations are known only a month by month basis for that month only.
Right, my understanding is they only know month to month, but seems ridiculous. How can they not know how many and when? If I knew when I would get an allocation for being first on the list, I would not make irrational decisions and possibly be a little more patient.

They know month to month for other model cars NOT the M2, for this year anyway.

I hope this is a rhetorical question.

Obviously you're better off being first on the list if you want the car sooner rather than later. You should also do a little research on your chosen dealer, to see what their M/M235i sales volume is, as that is pretty much the only thing that dictates the number of M2 allocations they will receive (if any).

Well, my dealership was bought out by another recently, so not sure if this helps me or causing more issues.

Sounds like next allocation run will be announced first week of April, like the others said here ...
What dealership are you on the waiting list for? Im number 4 and I believe they get 2 allocated in april. Im curious how people are "ordering" ? I think the dealership gets cars in some quantity and offers them to the people on the waiting list in order. if you are number 1 and pass you can pick the next one offered or pass again.

You are confusing an order queued in the order bank for a fulfilled order with the manufacturer. For customer orders (non dealer demos) there is no reason to pass. Rather, the customer specifies the options and the car is produced.

If I am number two on the list, does BMW allow loyalty customers the ability to jump ahead of me? I know other car manufacturers will do this, not sure about BMW?

Dealership specific, but yes. There was actually a thread from a forum member a few weeks back about how he decided to get an M2 and due to standing with dealership he got bumped to #1.

Never trust a dealers word until you're holding onto the VIN number with your name attached to it.

The order bank, aka "the list" or "queue", is maintained by the dealer not BMW. It is possible for the dealer to reorder the positions. BMW can see this list, but only become involved when an order is fulfilled.

My understanding is the order bank is NOT "the list"

Years ago the E46M3 "list" was a piece of paper in the salesman's desk.

Certainly before the order bank opens, they use other means to manage pending orders.

Agreed but I doubt (speculating a bit) that the sales guy is not going to enter everyone on the list in the order banking knowing 1) that they only have or guess they have x allocations in the near future and 2) that y percent will drop off the list.

If I were the dealer, I'd have each customer sign a deposit form with agreed amount and CC info. This would ensure a place in the order bank. However, the dealer should not charge unless and until an allocation for the customer is guaranteed. That should take care of both points.

That was then ..

For the 1M and M2 , you probably need(ed) to be on the piece of paper in the general managers desk... And hopefully HIS name isn't ahead of yours on that list

I'm number 7 on the list from Monterey BMW(California) seems descent but as the days and weeks pass I'm becoming less and less hopeful. I've been calling around but very little to no info has been given. Dealers have no clue on allocations and even saying try next year.

What is this "order bank" people are talking about exactly?

I also read that in Ca a deposit on a car can't be retained if the customer backs out. It's somewhat of a lopsided agreement at that point. Another case of consumer protection working against the consumers here.

Yes. However, the dealer, IMO, makes that call not BMW.

If you were 7 with them a couple of weeks ago, then, you're very likely 6 now.

I would call every BMW dealer within a 2 day drive and do a Fly-and-Drive if you can find one. Try to at least get a production number at MSRP.

I only know of 2 dealers in the entire bay area who are seeking at MSRP. All the other dealers are gouging as much as they can. What horrible business practice and msg to customers.

I'm not sure but I think it's the same ordering system with the only difference being the dealer doesn't have an allocation and at the order isn't accepted.

So I just received an interesting msg from a dealer in Norcal telling me he can get me an allocation, the M2 would arrive by Nov, and it would put me at the #3 slot. It was after hours so we'll be talking tomorrow. Did say I need to put a deposit down and he would get me an allocation number with my deposit. What's the chances of this actually happenening?? Also if he actually gives me an allocation number it should also come with a build number correct??? Oh and at MSRP
