M2 Damaged at port?

So I ordered an M2 in January and it was supposed to be arriving this week. According to the guy from my dealership, it was damaged while being unloaded and they can't sell it to me. So now I'm being told that they managed to get me an order that will get here in 8-10 weeks. Does this sound like anything you guys have ever heard of?

My first post here and this will be my first BMW, if it ever gets here. Oh and just as a full disclosure, I will have to pay a mark up. The guy from the dealer says he's going to get me a day at the M track days event in Thermal and he might be able to help me get a loaner since my lease will be up next month. Thoughts?

BMW should pay for a loaner for you while you wait for your M2 without a car. In a way, you are lucky, because the damage was extensive enough that they did not tell you to wait a month while they attempted to repair it. At least this way, your M2 will not be damaged from the day you take delivery. If you did not agreed to a "mark up" on your original order you should not have to pay a mark up on the replacement vehicle. If the dealership is trying to make money on your misfortune, I would shop elsewhere.

Posts like this kept me up at night when my car was making it's trip over, feel your pain man. Best this way, the wait sucks, but you'll get a new car that hasn't been repaired!

Maybe you can ask for one of the first of the LCI's.

Well, I actually agreed to the mark up when I first ordered it in January.

I don't think it will be an LCI model. I'm ordering mineral grey with executive package and 6mt. The guy said he was able to get me a 2017 that was supposed to be a different color and transmission but he emailed in time to change the order. This is supposed too make the process faster according to him. He did agree to use the same MSRP that I had originally agreed to in January though because the base price has since gone up from what I see on the website. I tried to see if I could negotiate the mark up by offering to buy the M exhaust and use the mark up towards that but he wouldn't go for it.

I'm pretty disappointed with the way things have gone but I'm worried that if I start the process with another dealer, I'll be waiting a long time again.

At the beginning of last week I was showing my coworkers the boat on the boat tracker map online. "Look it's getting closer!" Then when it got the port I had told them I'd have my car in a couple of days. When I told them this past Wednesday what happened it had them rolling. Now I'm just going to lay low until I actually have the car.

Wink

LCI is in your future, maybe if you are lucky we'll see a new engine.

Wow that sucks. I'd ask for a refund and look elsewhere.

If they treat a paying customer this shabbily, I shudder to think how bad you'd be treated if you needed any customer service in the future.

I hope that isn't the case. They do have free flatbed and free loaner service when ever my car will need to be serviced so that seems pretty cool.

There are times where cars are damaged in transit and end up no being able to be repaired to the factory standards. Not sure how frequently it happens but if you read threads about clubs visiting the BMW centers at the ports most of them show a few cars that were damaged and in the process of repair as the ports are fully equipped and trained to do pretty much anything. If your car was damaged to the point that they could not repair it you don't want it anyway. That sucks but unfortunately things happen in life.

The least they could do is sell you the car with no markup. There's no reason to pay more than msrp in the first place. If I were you I'd start looking around for available cars at other dealerships. With the new LCI announced, I suspect there will be people backing out of their current orders, and waiting on 2018 models.

I did find a dealership willing to order the car at MSRP but the production date won't be until 2 weeks from now. I'm being told that the car should be here at the end of August. I felt hesitant to start the process again but I went ahead and did it anyway. Hopefully it does not get delayed because I'm going to have to rent a car after June.

Why would anyone pay markup for a M2?

Sure but you may be able to find one that is incoming/already in production and get it sooner than August. Where are you located?
