M2s available for test drive?

Does anyone know of any dealers that have a manual M2 to test drive in NY or the tristate area?

The 6MT should be identical to what you'd get in an M3/M4 as well as an Msport 240i/etc, so try one of those as an alternative.

I actually drove what I think is kind of a unicorn... M340i Xdrive in 6MT. Dealer is gonna have a hard time getting rid of that which I think is why they allowed me to put a few miles on it.

My impressions on it, coming from a cable-actuated Audi 6MT...

Clutch is very light and much shorter than the pedal on my car. Stick is slightly dampened (I can see why people might say it is "rubbery") but it is a very nice smooth feeling compared to my TT. I really like the auto revmatch, and I know how to heel-toe myself... but I'm also aware that the car is more accurate and faster than I am at it.

I won't feel like I'm missing out too much by saving the $2900 and skipping DCT. I actually like DCT (I tested an M3 with one), mostly because the speed of shifts means you don't lose boost when you're trying to beat on it. I like it, but I don't like it $2900-worth, especially not when the 6MT is nice.

The one thing I'm worried about now is not having the 7th gear meaning that the RPMs will be relatively high in 6th on the freeway... but from what I've read, the 7th isn't a super tall overdrive, the gear spread is just adjusted a bit to spread over 7 gears instead of 6...

If DCT was a $500 option I'd probably take it. At $1000 I'd have a harder decision to make but might still go DCT. I think $1500 is about the tipping point for me.

I test drove an M235i for this reason and it was not rev matching. Based on this I think the transmission is not the same as M2. Now I am looking for a manual M4 to try but it's not easy finding even these. I have no hope of finding an M2 in any configuration to test drive. At least I know now the M2 will be the right size for me.

Weird, my sales guy said that basically all of the 6MT BMWs have rev-matching.

The M340 I drove definitely had it (and that was even an x-drive car)

It looks like this was introduced in the *40 cars, so a 240 should have it as well.

Walked into BMW dealer near me, looked at some cars for about 5 minutes, was never approached by a salesman, finally got so close to a salesman he was forced to ask me if I needed help, I told him I was looking for a Manual transmission M car that I could test drive, he laughed saying you'll never find an M car unless you order it that way, continued to tell me that with the dct you can't shift as quick, I stared at him, said alright, thanks, and left.

POS SA, doesn't know why we want MT M vehicles...

No salesperson is forced to ask you if you need help. IF he did not want to help you he'd just avoid you. And for the most part he is correct, so not sure what your issue is other than maybe you just do not like salespeople.

I have a manual M2. I'm in Westchester. My dealer is still taking orders off their list and is getting about 1 car a month. It'll be a long time before you find one sitting at a dealer and a dealer willing to let people drive it. I had to search around a year ago to take a basic M4 for a test drive.

My issue is clear. If you are in customer sales you should be customer friendly. Not laugh in the customers face when he asks a question.

I was able to test drive prior to negotiating but I showed them that I was ready to buy that day if I like it.

I agree that the SA should be customer friendly. But if you want to test drive a MT M car, why not go look at a used one to test drive?

What is this "M340i" that you keep referring to? Are you sure it wasn't just a 340i or M240i?

Maybe it was just a "340ix" (no "M"). I thought I heard the sales guy call it an M340 but maybe that was just his confusion with it having a 6MT? I don't know if I ever looked at the back of it for a badge.

Definitely wasn't a 2 series, it had 4 doors. Helped me to realize that if I decided to go up to a 3 or 4, I would probably end up going for the 4 because I hate the location of the B pillar on the 3.
