"My wife was also did not want to be a passenger in the performance driving sessions because she doesn't want to get car sick... lol... But if she can drive herself she would be ok."

When I picked up my M2, a few people stood on the side of the track when they were not driving because they did not want to get car sick so I know it is allowed. I drove and then my guest got in the car to take his turn driving.

Both my guest and I got to drive the off road portion of the PCD experience.

That's interesting that your guest is allowed to do some driving as well. I actually called the Performance Center to ask them about my PCD. I asked if my wife could do the off-road driving part, since she was interested in getting an X model, and they said, "no, only the person purchasing the car is allowed to do the driving". Hopefully this person was wrong and just didn't know what they were talking about.

You both get a turn to do the offroad driving. They aren't really that particular of who drives first (you or your guest). But you both get an opportunity to do it. I would recommend she drive the x first as the first driver gets a little more time behind the wheel.

Lol, you guys see anyone bring their small kids as bystanders? My plan is to fly up with my wife and two kids, rent a car for her to drive around, do the PCD, turn in the rental, then take the M2 and the kids to Helen for a short vacation.

Hmmmm well that works but I do know they strictly say no kids or you will not participate in the driving exercises but then again you are taking the wife so she could stay with them.

Now, if you were to go just with her she would also do the driving parts which is nice for both of you to experience that, but I fully understand if you have nobody to take care of the kids while you guys pick up the car.

Also if you are wanting to have them part of the road trip they would miss out. But I did not see any kids there.

Good to hear they let your guest drive as well. My wife will be happy. This should make it more enjoyable for her, since she can directly participate, instead of just being a passenger or bystander.

The only negative is that it might make her want a new BMW too.

Should be fun regardless. I'm excited!

Believe me she will enjoy it.. and the SUV trail you guys also switch and its as fun as the track portion..

I took my girl with me and I thought since I ordered a 6 speed that the one on track would also be manual which she would have not been able to drive but since it was DCT she did all..

This was my video recap!

So what exactly is "special" About the driving school portion included in the M Driver's Package (MDP) then?

Just more time on track plus M3/M4 time? Do they give you a 6MT option in the MDP?

There's a LBB car that literally had every option ticked (MDP as well as DCT) at a local dealership. I'd have to test drive the DCT to see if I like it; I had a VW dual-clutch car in the past and did enjoy that, but my current ride is 6MT so I'm waffling on transmission choice.

I suspect the car at the dealership is one that someone backed out of or changed their mind on DCT so I'm guessing it might sit for a while... meaning I might be able to lowball and have them accept... except the price is inflated by the MDP on it. If you buy an "already delivered" car with the MDP, is there a time window you have to "redeem" the driving package portion? (It seems like it would be stupid to buy the MDP unless you're also going to do PCD and pick it up at the same time or the day after, unless that's not an option.)

The M Driver's Package includes a 1-day M School (at a future date) at either Thermal (Palm Springs) or Spartanburg. It's completely different than the Performance Center Delivery experience. Some of the same exercises, but all done with M Cars (believe right now it's M2, M3, M4).

So I paid for the M Track day at Thermal on Oct 6 for $250. Now I got an M2 that comes with the M Driver's package. I called the M track day hotline hoping to get a refund or at least use it for a friend and they say its not the same. Is it true and am I suppose to get a call from BMW to schedule the M Drivers package event?
Also the delimiting of my speed does that happen after the event or is it programmed in the car now?

Any clarification regarding this matter would help.

Not sure if you'll get a call from them, I think you might receive a voucher via email or regular mail. M Track Days are just a 1/2 day program and not the sam exercises as an M School.

Believe the speed limit change will happen at your 1200 mile service

Just got back from the very first M driver's package school at BMW PC in South Carolina. I would say it was well worth the extra money to add it to your purchase price. This was different from the typical one day M school but not as good as the two day M school or the advance M school (based on what I have read). Cars were M2, M3, and M4 and you get a lot of seat time in each. They ran a different course setup for this school. Wet skid-pad in the M3 with some drifting, a new timed course with the M2, lane change maneuvers in the M4, and some instructor chase in the M3s and M4s. I say chase as our instructor Derek advised that if we pushed him he would go as fast as we could keep up.
Have to say that one day wore me out! To top it off, BMW will now officially remove the top speed limiter on your car. I realize you can have this coded out but down the road sometime in the future I will sell this car (M2) and it is a nice added perk to have it factory authorized.

There are some pretty good deals to be had on the M classes via the CCA and Groupon. 2500 bucks could get you some Dinan tuning ( I want to say the stage 1 software is like 1500) and an m school ( seen for under 1000) if you are patient and wait for the right deal. I set my alerts for deals that pop up in Palm Springs/thermal haven't found one that fits the schedule yet but it seems like a lot more bang for the buck. My .02

Mine was included in the dealer ordered car I wanted. But it's not something I regret. I look forward to gaining more experience driving M cars.

Sounds like a great time. Derek is awesome
