Disappointing Continental Tires On My M2

My 2017 M2 was delivered to my shock and surprise with Continental tires.
I was delighted to get the car after the long wait, but very very disappointed to see those tires. The dealer was oblivious and stated that the M cars are commonly delivered with Michelins AND Continentals and have been for years.

I guess it goes without saying that I accepted the car and hoped for the best. I called the Tire Rack and they tried to be diplomatic and said the Conti's were "good tires", but when pressed admitted they were not as good as the MPSS.

I accepted my fate and enjoyed the car immensely for about 5,000 miles. Then the Conti's started getting noisy. By the time I reached 7,000 it was intolerable. All 4 tires are VERY noisy. I went to see a Continental tire dealer that is also a Michelin dealer. He looked at the tires and said they were all "cupping". He said it wasn't anything I had done or anything wrong with the car or alignment, but he advised me to contact BMW.

I contacted my BMW dealer and they said, "We don't warranty tires. That is the manufacturers responsibility", but the went on to say that I should contact BMW North America and complain. After reviewing the facts BMW NA said, "We don't warranty the tires" and said they would have the dealer call me. Eventually the dealer called and said he could arrange for me to get a new set of the same Continental tires for half price.

Well folks a shit tire at half price is still a shit tire. I declined their offer.
The most disturbing part of all this is that the press release on the car very clearly states the car was tuned for MPSS tires and that they were "exclusively" used on the car. I now have about 8,700 miles on the tires and they continue to get more noisy. If I were buying one I would specify to the dealer that "I will not accept the car if delivered with Continental or any tires other than Michelin."

Week 12, manual. My dealer said all of their cars have had MPSS. Must be a very odd coincidence.

Just had to replace a MPSS left rear due to a metal wire through the sidewall/tread area. Probably picked up on the interstate at some construction. I can say at $353.00 I wish I had the Conti's lower cost.
I will say that I would probably had no reservations with the Conti's as that is what BMW uses at the PCDs. (Granted, there is some monetary incentive). That being said, so far the MPSS's have been great.

Question about euro delivery; do they drill holes in the bumper for the front plate or is it mounted temporarily some other way?

They use double sided tape. No drilling.

I picked mine up last Friday, got lucky with the Michelin's. Are people still getting Contis? I was wondering if there was a shortage of the PSS.

I'm curious to see what my M2 comes with when I go get it for ED. It was built yesterday. Regardless, I think I'm going to put the new P4S on when it's time for a new set of tires.

Reposted from other thread but I got the Conti's as well.

Already lodged a complaint with the dealership management just as a matter of course, they then directed me to call BMW corporate. Just got off the phone with them and they were admittedly less than helpful. I pointed out the fact that the Conti's were a known inferior tire to the PSS's and was told thats what all cars are getting....I quickly called BS on that. The BMW rep said the M2 was not designed for just the PSS and though it may have said that in 2016 that the 2017 were not. I realize the 2017 doesn't have any literature that says exactly what manufacturers tires would be used (unless someone has something that does) I get it, other tires "will work" but what is the point of releasing a car who's equipment differs from what is used in advertisements and testing. This is especially true with tires which we all know can be a saving grace, or in this case, major weakness in a vehicle.

I thought at first that the Conti's were ok but after 2 weeks and 1000+ miles on them I have to disagree. The road noise is terrible at freeway speeds and there are already showing signs of wear. Seeming as Ive been doing break in speeds/driving I cannot see where these should be showing anything. Ive had PSS's on 3 prior M cars and my 911 and, depending on what BMW decides to do, will be putting them on the M2. Guess the question comes down to who will be paying for the change.

We shall see what BMW corporate decides to do but my initial feeling is I will be told to pack sand. As with many here, we are longtime BMW brand enthusiasts (M cars in specific) and should be treated with a bit more care when they split how they equip the cars from the factory.

Does this take away from my absolute happiness with the M2? Not in the least. What it does do it make me question the way BMW Corporate views its customers. Awaiting their reply, BMW Corporate if you are reading this take note
