Question Is an allocation tied to a given model year?

Another member on this forum alerted me to a friend who had an allocation slot at a dealership within a tolerable driving distance for me.

I'm still trying to get more details / contact info for the dealership from this forum-member's friend, but I thought someone here might have the answer I'm looking for...

Is an allocation only applicable to a certain MY car? Or if the dealership is willing to wait a month to put in the order, is that something they can do? I want a LCI / 2018 car, so I don't want the order to go in until I know it can come out as a 2018...

As far as I understand, an allocation is tied to a specific production week. MY 2017 production ends in June and I believe MY 2018 starts in July. So as long as the allocation is scheduled for production after June, it's safe to say it'll be a 2018 model. The dealer can tell you what the production week is for the allocation you're considering.

I don't think dealers have their allocations for July yet so that car is probably a MY2017.

M2 Allocations come out quarterly. Most allocations are still going to folks on waiting lists.

Well, the person who had this slot reserved talked to his SA at the dealership and got the following back:
Quote:
BMW will build out all ordered MY17's before transitioning to MY 18. My allocation is a MY 17 and is scheduled for June build with July delivery, dates are tbd but may be pushed into July build August delivery. The last day to change options/colors etc for my allocation is May 23. The MY 18 allocation for each dealer has not been determined as of today. Price increase will be minimal but with added features the price will rise.
It was my understanding that a July build would automatically be an LCI / MY 2018, but maybe that is incorrect?

Nope, and someone has to have the last MY17.

Perhaps they'll build MY 2017 up until they shutdown for the summer holiday. Then start production of the MY 2018 when they return. That was would seem to make sense.
