I hope they go to at least a v8.

I like the idea of going back to at least a V8.

I always thought the notion of F1 being 'green' was completely ludicrous. The transporting of cars and equipment alone completely blows that notion out of the water, not to mention the actual fuel economy of a 2017 F1 car (7 mpg?).

F1 is nothing more than a sprint race, and there is absolutely nothing about a sprint race that is "fuel usage" friendly. Save the eco stuff for WEC where it actually belongs. F1 is supposed to be an automotive freak show. Sure, there are some things that trickle down to road cars (flappy paddles, ABS, etc), but not everything in an F1 car needs to eventually end up in a VW Golf. F1 needs to get back to being the three-armed, two-headed, 8' 10" freak of nature that it used to be.

A big part of what made F1 fun to watch during the V10 era was watching cars do things that cars are not supposed to be able to do, especially from a powertrain standpoint. For me, there is no engine configuration that sounds better than a V10. It is stunning. If F1 does want to push some sort of 'green' movement, maybe they'd be better off partnering with a petroleum company and developing some sort of earth friendly bio-fuel that isn't used cooking oil.

I miss not seeing BMW in F1 too, but I completely understand why they withdrew in 2009 and I don't expect to see them get back in anytime soon, if ever.

One of the most memorable things about being at the Australian GP was the 2-seat Minardi (yes, that old thing ....). It was doing laps of the circuit and it was awesome hearing that beautiful V10 in all its glory! It reminded me of the days when the whole field ran that configuration engine!!

Didn't every previous F1 engine regulation change targeted "cheaper engines"?
Remember rules requiring engines to last 2 then 4-5 races?

Yet, somehow, they always achieved the opposite results!

A statement added: "Future power units [must] be powerful, while becoming simpler and less costly to develop and produce," whilst also "improving the sound [and] a desire to allow drivers to drive harder at all times."

The only thing missing from the above mission statement is "peace, and good will towards men".
Devil is in the details...
