Track rotors (OEM size)

Hey guys.

I'm thinking about grabbing a set of rotors just for the track. OEM size until I splurge for a BBK.

Do you guys know what options are out there, and if they're worth it over buying an OEM set from Turner?

Thanks.

Check out the IND post. They have OEM sizing 2 piece rotors that will out perform the stock setup. As do other companies

Saw that. Very pricy relative to the stock rotors. Will they last five times as long?

Not trying to troll or anything, but what about the rotors available at IND make them "out perform" the stock rotors? I assume you're referring to the $4,100 Alcon kit.

I just thought he was looking for options. I run the stock rotors on track and they've treated me well! Price wise it's a different game altogether.

No worries! I would say any rotor that fits in the stock caliper has room for improvement. It's not about the diameter so some manufactures will notch up their thickness a few Mm while utilizing better cooling fins.

So overall I'd say the main advantages are 1: there's weight to be saved within the center aluminum floating section that accounts for a lot of performance 2: better cooling due to rotor thickness and airflow and lastly would be longevity and rotor face designs. Drilled rotors don't take as much abuse as slotted and don't last as long, drilled rotors no longer hold a cooling advantage.

I'm not saying that the IND posted rotor does all of these things, but a stock diameter replacement can improve performance.

My thoughts exactly. That's like $3k over OEM replacements. For maybe marginally better cooling and lower weight?

And my question of, "will they last 5x as long?" I'm guessing not, and based on my reasearch it seems a separate set of OEM rotors is the way to go until a BBK is installed.

I was mostly looking for the best way to not have to drive on the street with rotors beginning to howl or shudder from track use.

No way they last that long. At least not $3k longer. Your guess is correct on BBK or OEM. $4k gets you front Brembo BBK

These are fronts only, but Stoptech makes 2 piece rotors that should work well on track.

Place to talk to on this is Girodisc. I believe they already have a rotor that's the right diameter (front brakes are 370mm, right? TTRS is the same, so it's just a matter of thickness and hat geometry at that point)

Girodisc rotors are solid and the price is fair too - $1k for a set of fronts for the TT, although I've seen them cheaper in a group buy IIRC. When you kill the ring, you just replace the ring and reuse the hat, true two-piece.

switching rotors won't make much of a difference to brake performance on the track.. if you want better perf / cooling you need bigger brakes (front BBK) or at the very least track pads.

The thought was more about finding a similar priced aftermarket rotor as OEM that would last longer, before dropping the cash on a BBK. Seems like that rotor doesn't exist.

I updated this thread with Girodisc news...

The alcon kit seems quite nice.. The kit is expensive but the replacement rotor rings are dirt cheap.

You need to factor in total cost of ownership. With aggressive pads expect to go through rotors within a track season if not sooner.
