They changed the model name from "M2 Cs" back to "M2 Competition" Somethings up with the bimmer.work site, not seeing the background or images of the car. Here are a couple of lookup screen shots. |

That public BMW VIN Decoder site apparently seems to have switched to Commodore 64 mode now. At first glance no changes in EURO-spec VINs: still "2U71" for LHD and "2U72" for RHD, both still labelled "M2 Cs". Two changes in USA-spec VINs: "2U73" became "2U7C" (that's new) and "M2 Cs" got switched back to "M2 Competition" again (as before).

Tag, that public BMW VIN Decoder site seems back to normal again.
Changes:
Or all these recent changes could just be temporary, with everything swapping back to the initial "2U71", "2U72" and "2U73" type names and "M2 Competition" model name. EURO-spec LHD: EURO-spec RHD: USA-spec:

You assume that BMW controls that public BMW VIN Decoder. Maybe that's not the case. Personally I don't know.
The websites http://www.bmwarchive.org/ and http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/ are very well-informed about BMW data. Both link to that BMW VIN Decoder. Very easy to find, free access worldwide and no registration or password required. So not some obscure website hidden somewhere on the Dark Web.

It's safe to assume that bimmer.work just connects to the same database like parts vendors do -and the database is indeed BMW controlled

Today the local Dealer Principal told me the next release in Australia is the M2 Competition, due shortly, around May. Then the M2 CS will be released later in the year, followed by the CSL, likely to be early next year.
