bmw driver profiles
Noob question, and yes, i have read the manual but it doesnt help.
question: I hold one key, my wife holds another. i have set my key to driver 1(with seats and mirrors to my profile). My wife did the same with her key. every morning she will unlock the and fire up the car with her key, and she drives to work with me as passenger(my key in my pocket). when she reaches her office and we change over, why is it i have to keep pressing memory seat number 1 a few times to get my seating position? (i understand the car will only switch to the driver profile for the one unlocking the door, which in this case is my wife). so after she alights and off to work, i take over the wheel, it still does not set to my profile. If i go into driver profiles, it simply ask me if i want to assign the settings to the current key. i'm lost.please help. |

Try turning off the car and restarting when she is out of range.

If you unlock it with your remote, whether or not the car was locked, it should switch to you. This has worked for me by pressing unlock on the remote, and even with comfort access as long as you're touching the driver's side handle. (With the car off.) You may also have to switch off before the physical unlock button on the key works. I haven't tried it with the engine running.
Alternatively, use settings > profile > your name in the iDrive. However, if you do that, it may force your wife to do the same when she gets back in the car as the car will reassign the profile to the most recently used key. |

ya.it's not very user friendly. It should auto switch to whichever key is detected in the driver's seat. and i dont know whats up with the seat buttons.sometimes when i press 1 briefly it will move to my driving position. then the other times need to press, let go, repeat 3-4 times to reach the position. |

Don't worry bromego I'm here to help!
Now the profile system as you know works on whomever unlocks the car. (unless it is overwritten by selecting a different profile) Now for the seats to move by themselves you must go to, depending on which I drive system you have, doors and locks. or profiles for I-Drive 5.0 and above. then select Last seat position automatic. Now this must be done to EVERY profile for it to stick and work properly with both of your keys. After that you should be good to go! Just make sure if you select another profile with your key that is not your own. Be sure to reselect yours afterwords to prevent any settings being overwritten. Let me know if you need some more help you can call me at our dealership and I can help over the phone |

Just so you know, the memory seats are different than the "last position" saved in your key. So you can actually have a different position saved on the memory button for the seat than you do in your key. You do need to press and hold that button until the seat stops moving. When you exit the car, that will now be the "last position" saved on your key/profile unless you move it back. |

problem is, we change over WITHOUT shutting off the car.i cannot select my profile because idrive only allows me 'assign this profile to the current key' if i click ok, it will overwrite my wife's settings. i have talked to my dealer and they told me the best way is to shut off the car, lock it, and unlock with MY key..Seriously it doesnt make sense BMW design their cars this way. damn frustrating. i had googled it and apparently came across some people pulling their hair also. |

so here's the situation. -one key assigned to wife -one key assigned to me. -regardless which key we unlock with, the bmw driver profiles always show 1)me 2)wife -the seat memory 1 is my position -seat memory 2 is her position. so once we reach her office and we change over, (both our keys still with us in the car), i need to press seat memory 1 and hold it to reach my position. does that mean i CANNOT use idrive to select my driver profile?(because if i do, it will SAVE into her key). tough. |
