+1

Look, I bought an M2 today that I ordered a couple of months ago. White, DCT, no exec. I would have bought one of these "limited" cars IF I did not also have to WASTE $2,500 on an electronic limiter increase to 168 mph and one performance driving class. I am already an experienced track day guy and I can drive at COTA for $500-$600 per day. So, to make me pay $2,500 for 1 track day is INSANE. The other bits are nice and I like stripping a few other unnecessary items off the car even if it costs more $$$ - shoot me now.

Just ran a search on BMW's inventory system. Out of 150; 92 are marked sold, 58 available.

Something to consider with that $2500 track event is if the car is fully covered by BMW if it gets wrecked.

I'd still rather put the money towards hpde events, but regular insurance won't cover your car if it's wrecked.

I think it will be a great car!

when they are sold out look for a immediate price increase....while they are available nobody cares..wait to they are sold out, for those of you who passed...tell about that the same time next year...its a collectors item once sold out...and for being an M car at 61K limited to 150...its a steal

You use a car supplied by BMW. You don't use your car. These classes are held at the performance center .

'Sold to dealers' doesn't automatically mean 'sold to dealers who already got a customer for the car'.

Several posts in this thread report about dealers contacting potential customers. No customers frenzy like in the 1M days.

Yep, same here. I am on a waiting list with the dealer, but not willing to even pay the $5k markup. As soon as they are willing to sell for MSRP, I will consider it.

The M2 is a great car, but I could buy my buddies, Cayman S with Ceramic Brakes and almost every conceivable option (Sticker was $90k) for $55k from him. The M2 might have the edge on HP, tun ability, and rear seats, but other than that the Porsche wins in my books.
Once you start looking at $60k+, you could consider a 2013 991.

3rds - $55k ($57 - $2k USAA) for Alpine White with DCT/Exec is the right price point

I refuse to pay an additional $2500 for the fucking M Driver's Package or any other dealer/port addons or dealer extras.

If it goes above $60k, I'm looking at Porsches again (which I am)

10 grand more for coilovers and a lot less content? I don't think BMW can pull off a Porsche move... this sounds like a "port installed dealer option" kind of money grab. If the whole thing was a couple hundred pounds lighter and it had more power, I'd be a player. Also doesn't make sense to fragment the offerings when the base offering is a sellout anyway. Very confusing gambit to me.

Have been.. you can even get an S for that... Found one I like but wife nixed the 911 - she says its time has come and gone more of an 80's thing. In some odd way I agree. Hmm... what to do. I'd still get an M2 if I could get an allocation, but not paying over sticker for any car, and not waiting forever. Wonder why BMW has constrained these so much when they obviously could sell more.

If you really want an allocation you can find one.

You just may have to work for it .. but they are around. First you'll have to decide that you truly want an M2 of course and quit worrying about used cars that your wife has nixed and then get to work. There have been multiple posts regarding cars available here the past week.

Since you brought P cars into the convo... did you also wonder why Porsche constrained production of the Cayman Gt4 (when they could have sold more )

Why does Ferrari not sell as many F40.. F50 etc as possible ?

Why for that matter does any manufacturer of any item limit production?

I haven't read all the posts in this thread but, let me get this straight. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of people on wait lists for an M2. BMW takes precious production slots and builds a special edition instead of fulfilling existing orders? Seems this was a run of 150 "spec" cars with no buyers lined up to purchase. Doesn't make sense to me unless BMW was trying to get rid of excess MPE (and other parts) inventory.

Creates some buzz while we wait for the CS.

Of course too early. Let's assume, just for a moment, that it will be around the second birthday of the M2 introduction/presentation that Curtiss can say something sensible about the M2 CS.

So the M2 Performance Edition is sitting on U.S. BMW dealer lots already and no actual pictures have been posted on here yet of one??

Disappointing!

I am curious to see the seats, suspension height, etc.
