That's interesting. Why is that? Last year I posted a similar thread and no one responded. Is it frowned upon when people mention their dealers selling a car? I'm asking because I genuinely want to know. Some of you post a single statement without explaining why. I'm on this forum a lot, but not as much to know every detail of what's going on.

I doubt this section is meant for posting what cars are available. The reason I doubt it is because there is a dedicated section called "Member Classifieds" where people post what's for sale. Personally, I think it's annoying and distracts from real conversation to post it here. I posted about a car for sale at one of my local dealerships in the "below msrp" thread in this section, but that was related to the thread because my intention was to show dealers are listing cars below msrp. |

The weird thing is I found out about a car on this section that way, but ended up losing out on buying the car. The CA I dealt with emailed and said said he had another one but I had already bought something else. I just thought I'd help someone else out since it was so hard to get one back then. I missed out before, but It doesn't matter now since I'm picking mine up my M2 next week. |

I agree. No one cares. Anyone who is serious about buying a new M2 will go see their dealer, or post up asking for allocations. Accounts should be banned if the person is working for a dealer and they are not a sponsor of this site.

Saying just 'MSRP' means nothing without a actual price figure because dealers load all the performance parts on the car which now has an MSRP price of $62+k. I think if a genuine dealer posted on here saying we have an M2 for sale without any performance parts with an MSRP price of 54k (base price) it would have more positive feedback. But no, dealers load all the performance stuff to maximize their profit on an M car that was meant to be 'affordable' and no longer is anymore...

Postings for new M2s for sale were much more prevalent a year ago, when the cars were hard to find and many dealers were adding outrageous markups. I posted a couple of times last year because my dealer had a couple of allocations at MSRP; two out-of-state guys here were happy to have the information and bought the cars, because they couldn’t otherwise find one.
I suspect the number of postings of this type will increase later this year, when the 2019 M2 officially becomes availaable. |

I think that's a stretch. There will be plenty of people who a) want a car immediately b) potentially get a better deal bc of the S55 c) not want to wait a year to get the S55 d) not want to pay another (guessing) $10K for the S55 or more depending on dealer markups.

From this thread alone, between Seattle and Bellevue BMW there are eleven M2 available for purchase Looks like the demand for N55 M2 is dead, at least here in Seattle area Crazy how things turn, last summer I spoke to my CA thinking of doing ED on M2, and the waiting list was like 20 people long at each dealer. And each dealer was not willing to do ED on M2. |

There’s nothing unusual about this - a lot of it’s just the normal winter sales cycle, where cars that are even remotely sporty don’t sell. (The largest Ford dealer in my state, for example, orders no Mustangs for his lot during the winter months.) Plus, as you said, there are some buyers who always want to wait for the next best thing. When the warmer spring rains hit the Northwest, most of those M2s will bloom into sales. (Ewww - Did I really just say that?).

Same goes with the M2 comp. The s55 has been out since 2014. All major kinks have been already worked out. With twin turbo there is really no need to upgrade the turbos. Just a stage one tune for an s55 is all you need, especially in a small car like the M2 IMO.

It is well known that with the N55 M2 it is basically maxed out from the factory. Any good power to get out of the M2 you will have to upgrade the fuel delivery which is a no no in my book on a brand new car.

I said that I like upgrading, not that I like easily making huge amounts of power. No fun in that at all. And I've seen no evidence showing the M2 is maxed out from the factory.

In any event, almost every car is a DCT; the only manual is loaded up like a Christmas tree and has a listed price of almost $65K. I would not take an automatic M2 for free. Over the last several months when people have been posting about all these cars sitting on dealer lots and all the great deals they are getting, I have yet to see any dealer with multiple manual transmission cars that aren't loaded up with option bloat, most of which is of zero value to me personally. My MG 6MT with zero options, which I will pick up this coming week, cost $53,500 plus dealer prep. I did not get anything off of MSRP, but I did get a fair trade in value on my 135i Coupe, traded in 2.5 months ago.

First, I guess it is good that there are some forum members who value anything from a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars as being some sort of earth-shattering savings that they would go to great effort to obtain. Obviously, none of these "deals" would interest me at all since they are over 2000 miles away from me, and I have better and more profitable ways of spending my time than hunting down something like that. The truth is that the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of the deals that people are finding on cars that are either loaded up with options (mostly of little value), DCTs, or both. When a dealer orders a car that is optioned up like a Christmas tree, they have a lot more potential profit to make and cutting a few thousand dollars off the price still results in a highly profitable sale. A stripped 6MT provides way less profit to the dealership, which is why the dealerships who are ordering cars on "spec" are not ordering them that way. For me to go out of the area to buy a car and then drive it back would require a big commitment. The nearest other dealership is 4+ hours drive away, and like my dealership, they hardly sell any M-Cars at all, since BMW dealers in my part of the country are mostly SUV shops. I haven't ever seen an M2 listed on their site. So then we are talking 9 and more hours of driving, a plane ticket, at least one night in a hotel, etc., to save peanuts. My business these days is largely in investment real estate. When I buy or sell or lease, these transactions are gone over with a fine-toothed comb, every option is looked at upside, downside, sideways, every clause in the documents are scrutinized from every angle. I pay my lawyer a small fortune to save me from losing an even bigger one :-) Real money is at stake, and the cost of a mistake can be very expensive. This stuff is worth my complete attention. On the other hand, these discussions about saving a few hundred or maybe a couple of thousand dollars in a car transaction, remind me of some of the silly things that people do chasing bonuses by repeatedly opening new credit card and bank accounts. There are websites devoted to that sort of thing. Sure, you can do it if you have the time, and if your time isn't worth all that much.

Why do you make general statements "there are no M2's under MSRP" then when someone shows you there are you say "well, those deals don't apply because they're not local to me" Or "That deal isn't good enough for me" some other reasoning that pertains to you only. Why do you use your M2 as "evidence" in your reasoning that no one can get lower than MSRP, when you live in a state with ONE dealership and the dealer rarely ever gets M cars in? Those are words from your mouth. I'm just not convinced you're that illogical of a person. Therefore, there must be some motive behind all this. Last edited by Anthony1s; 03-10-2018 at 07:05 PM.. |
