European Delivery front plate removal
I was told that the front plate of my car from European Delivery will be left on upon pickup. Was this the case for anyone else? If so, how did you remove it?

I used dental floss to cut through the adhesive to remove the plate and then I used googone to remove the residue off the paint.

I asked to have mine removed. I recall a post that a user had paint come off with it, I'd rather that happen at the dealer if it does.
We'll see if it's off on Saturday, otherwise I'll be following along for tips too. |

I don't know if mine was removed at the dealer or at the port but both plates were in the trunk when I picked up my car.
There is still some adhesive on the front bumper from it though, I'll need to work on getting that off still. Hopefully claying will work. |

If you don't have to take off to mount a state plate, it's kind of cool to keep it. Not some lame fake one, but a real German tourist plate. Kind of like a badge of honor. My buddy still has his on his M235.

I removed mine tonight, the best process was heating with a blow dryer and slowly pulling the plate off as the glue warmed. Any foam adhesive that didn't come clean was a real PITA. Go slow and get as much off clean as you can.

Same with my M2, however no adhesive, whoever took it off, did a great job on mine.

Wow, that's just wrong. I don't know how they did that. When I took mine off it left some goo behind, I can't imagine that removal would take off the paint.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I was wondering how the front plate is attached on a Euro delivery. The good news is it sounds like they don't actually drill your bumper and attach a plate holder to it.
So if you want to go without a front plate back in North America, you won't have drill holes already, right? |

How did you mount your plate? I hate the offset look of the tow hook mounts... I'm going to look into a Sto and Sho or whatever it's called, but those drill into your bumper from what I understand, somewhere you can't see, which is still not great... |

I asked the dealer to remove the German tourist front plate, and mine came off easily with no residue. I also hate the offset look of tow-hook mounts, so I went with the Carbonio front plate mount based on a very timely recommendation from someone on here - it's mounted in the center, no drilling, comes off and goes back on very easily. Scroll down and start at post #16 here: Carbonio front plate mount for M2

Not sure about the Sto-n-Sho mount - I never looked into that one; I'm sure someone else mentioned it in other threads but I don't recall the details of that one. There must have been something I didn't like about that one since I never looked into it.

My car was dropped off from ED at the dealership with the front plate still attached per my request. I left it on until my plates came. The removal was tedious. I pried it off very carefully. I used Goo Off to remove the residue. That sticky goop just laughed at Windex.
