I don’t know about pinching off the top of the finger but there is a forum member that actually has his finger pinched with a soft close door on his BMW.

There’s a thread on E90 M3 section where they retrofitted the door I think.

If this happened in July 2016, why did he wait until now to sue BMW? It took him 2 years to realize he missed the tip of his thumb??

I call BullShit. I bet he had his hand there and a wind gust blew the door closed on his hand. I have the soft close on my F10 M5 and the soft close does not even activate until the latch actually touches the latching bolt on the frame of the car. Door has to be almost fully closed for the motor to pull the door in.

Maybe he should’ve taken 5 minutes to research how SCAD’s worked before claiming that the door was a foot ajar before cutting off his thumb.

I guess BMW has been sending their doors to a blacksmith to sharpen the edges of the door on a grinding wheel before final assembly as well. Lol

I know several people had the same accident on their BMW and Benz, including 1 sales manager and 1 service manager at the Benz dealer.
This is actually a more common accident than many people think.

Strange claim. Some strange claims are real. This one sounds like bullshit.
I agree... seems fishy as I've opened and shut hundreds of these cars at this point and haven't lost a digit. It's a cool feature if you don't like the sound of the door shutting when you are trying to be quiet. I'm going to go out to the lot and try this on a few cars (not sticking my thumb in of course.) To see if I can get it to trigger from "a foot."
