Soda Crunch Noise Issue Resolution & Part Numbers
I had already posted this in http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...2#post21215082, but since it's buried in some few hundred posts, I thought I would repost it here for all to see below.
------------------ So got my baby back with the new shields installed. Attached are pics of the old/new shields together with the workorder outlining the problem, solution, and part numbers. Hope you all can approach your service advisor with the info and get the problem rectified. Successful or not, be sure to share your experience here for all. |

I am curious what year and build date your car is. That might help determine who has the old design an who has the new. I have had this a fair number of times so I am guessing I have the old style. My car was a September 13 build date, a 2017 model.

My car is MY16, built April. Now with around 5300km on it. We had snow here earlier this month. That's when the city dumped loads of sand on streets causing the crunch and making the screeching sounds. One day, I drove around town with the screeching sound. It was very embarrassing.

Not sure if most dealers/service will just fix it if you ask or if they have to hear it themselves. I have a feeling if I keep complaining a tech will "hear it" and they will fix it. I'm so mad right now thinking about this actually......... Why do I feel like this is going to take hours and days of pestering them when they could just cut straight to them fixing a problem that sounds like the car is dragging its exhaust on the ground? They say they want to save money so their policy is the tech has to hear it happen, but what about the money they lose when future potential customers hear the sound and BMW being stubborn about fixing a problem? It's just nonsense! Last edited by akkando; 02-11-2017 at 04:36 AM.. |

Are there any pictures of the revised shields?
Curious to know if they have just put a notch at the 6o'clock position to allow rocks to fall back out. |
