Great job OMG I want that roof, my hesitation though is the safety aspect of it. Does anyone know is the roof as strong as OEM??? my car will be a DD. The roof is pure porn, If I were only using my car for the track I would pull the trigger immediately. Guess until more info about the roof specs comes out, so I can make an informed decision, I will just have roof envy.

In my ignorance I did some research and found that carbon fiber roofs are actually stronger than sheet metal roofs. I now will be looking into what it will take to get this amazing roof and how much the install will be.. just hope the wait for it won't be too long.

More worried about fitting - how would we now its been fitted correctly, so the car retains structural integrity?

I will get answer hopefully Monday or Tuesday from German Motors Collision Center. It's a BMW authorized factory repair center and they repair/replace carbon fiber roofs on M3's here in San Francisco. They should have specs and tolerances for doing this type of work. Also mainly what the labor cost will be.

We won't be offering an install guide, but do have a number of suggested body shops in California, New York, and Chicago that can perform roof installations correctly.

This is a complete replacement. You remove your original BMW roof panel, and install this in it's place.

Now they need to make my trunk lid (painted) to match the lines of this roof.
The RKP trunk spoiler is actually specifically designed to match the body lines of the roof.

Thanks! This roof will be available in both weave patterns.

Just a couple of questions to learn more about this beautiful carbon roof.

In terms Of absorbing impact compare to the OEM roof how does it perform? And the coating that will be used to withstand UV rays, how does it compare to the coating used on other M models' roofs?
Thank you! The RKP carbon roof has the same amount of carbon plies, and same direction of plies as an OE BMW carbon roof. The resins used have a very low UV sensitivity- this manufacturer has been using the same resin system since the E46 M3 era with no signs of yellowing or fading over time.

That's about right. The very low end would be about $1,600 for labor, and the high end should come in at about $2,400. A typical qualified body shop can perform the install in the $1,800~$2,000 range.

I'm glad we announced it early enough! Hopefully the dealer will allow you to change your order.

Correct- carbon fiber is an extremely strong material, and the original BMW safety structures and reinforcement beams remain in place when installing the carbon roof panel.

BMW specifically developed an adhesive for use in bonding carbon fiber panels to sheet metal. By following BMW repair procedures and using BMW's own bonding adhesive a qualified body shop can ensure a permanent and strong bond between the roof and the body of the car. This is the same procedure used at BMW's factory when installing a carbon roof on an E92 M3, F82 M4, etc...

I'm expecting a substantial weight savings, but will have exact figures this week!

That sounds like an ideal place to perform the work!

Here is a blog entry we posted some years ago, about an E90 M3 carbon fiber roof install:

The weights are in!

OE BMW: 18.5lbs

RKP: 7.5lbs

The RKP roof therefore yields a 60% weight savings over the factory BMW roof panel, providing a reduction in weight in the most critical area of the car.

Im wrapping my roof w high quality 2x2, i cant spend 2gs to save 10lbs even if it is stiffer and does slightly lower the COG.

That being said, beautiful piece and I envy those ho have the liquidity to buy this...

Question does anyone make Carbon fiber hoods or trunk lids? Or the C/F Front lip on the Armitryx green M2???

Is there any information on the weave pattern? will it match up with the M carbon parts?

I double much structural load if any at all goes into the sheet panel of the roof. There is probably an extensive structure around and under the panel to handle actual loading.

Fitment is great and quality is excellent! It's survived the crazy rain we had here in socal (probably mild rain for the rest of you). also it stood up to the light hail we had without any damage or leaks. Purchased and installed thru eas.

Had antenna and roof strips painted as well

The car really should have come this way from BMW.
