Allocation or near new car wanted

It's using WiDi essentially. A few of the 3rd party headunits support this as well since they were shipping with WiFi already.

By 3rd party you mean other brands, or other aftermarket? I've yet to see an aftermarket system doing wireless carplay, every one has been wired AFAIK. Other brand OEM units I don't have a ton of experience with yet though.

I'm an IT guy by trade and have spent a lot of time researching various phone connectivity systems for cars... I'm not a big fan of Carplay after using it (with aftermarket head units) in my TT, but I would probably still drop the extra $300 to add it to a Bimmer because I think it does help resale (assuming there's no negative to having the option, I presume it can be disabled?)

There's a MGM with exec + Carplay sitting on the showroom floor at BMW Cleveland, not listed on their website. It also has the M Perf Exhaust on it already (titanium tips)... and some stupid phone dock thing in the armrest that they are of course charging more for.

They said MSRP is like 60k because of the exhaust.
