No S-designated M-specific engine....now no M mirrors...clearly this car is not an M...

Ok, Ok. I agree with the majority. I think M-specific mirrors are a nice touch; the absence of them will not deter me from buying the car if it is as good as we expect. The only possible reason for the lack of M mirrors I can think of is to to keep the cost down. After all the new bodywork, even that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Oh well.

I'm due to replace my M235i on summer 2017, maybe they will have some of the missing items like M-mirrors available then.

LCI will probably get some of the things people are wanting...the CSL will get them all.

Lol if BMW did this to any other M car and you nonchalantly said this in their subforum there would be riots

For the M2, neither a complete side mirror redesign was needed nor an M3/M4 transplant. Simply the small, low-cost effort for BMW M to design a side mirror cap featuring a stubby on top, to create the same look and feel of many ///M cars.

If BMW gets too many questions about 'the missing stubby' design detail, it may consider designing a dedicated ///M mirror cap as ///M Performance Part. Likely in carbon fiber, to have a one-fits-all-colors part.

Examples of aftermarket's better take on F22 2er side mirrors: here and here.

M2:
Attachment 1298596

F22 2er aftermarket side mirror CF cap:
Attachment 1298597

Here's an M2 render of the past showing how it could have looked:
Attachment 1298636
it has been stated in materials already that AERO figures were important for this car. With the CD of the 1M up around 0.39... this car is only 0.35 which is really only slightly better.

if an M engineer got up and told people that they DIDNT want BIGGER mirrors on the car.. or that changing the shape/angle of attack of the mirrors disturbed the aero and so they kept the OEM mirrors.. it still wouldn't make Joe Average BMW fan happy. Fans want what they want.. and don't even know what's good for them sometimes..

Tales from the past: the upper stubby of the covering part of some 1M side mirrors (E9X M3 mirrors) suffered minor cracks. Replaced under guarantee by BMW. Was probably a mounting issue during assembly at the factory (over-tightening of the mirror triangles - from the inside of the door panel):

Won't happen with the M2.

Really bad omission by BMW M. If they need aerodynamics, create a new M-like mirror with the aerodynamics desired. Don't tack on the 235 mirrors. I'm at a loss for words. I'm very disappointed with BMW. No carbon fiber, no M mirrors, N55... this should be a 2 M, ugh...

For BMW Performance Parts, BMW can do better than what is shown below, but it's the idea:

They are still M designed.
Its all to do with the side arm of the M3 and M4 Mirrors not being compatible with the 2er. It was designed to use the M mirrors but a fix added more cost.
Besides a mirror is a mirror it still has the same function.
Scott, the decision to go with standard mirrors in lieu of M mirrors was a big mistake. Very short sighted. Raising the cost flag is a weak excuse to defend a bad decision. For sure there were those inside M that were greatly disappointed as well.

Plus, the mirror on the passenger side of my 1M whistles. Very annoying sometimes.

Why would anyone want that? Looks stupid. In fact, the M3/4 mirrors don't look good and even looked worse on the M2 in the renderings that had them. The regular mirrors that it got look so much better.

M features I am missing on this product:
-M seats
-M mirrors
-door sills just say ///M not ///M2
-Oil temp gauge
-White backlighting on the gauge cluster
-M steering wheel button(s)
-DCT shift speed adjustment button
Many small details but they are adding up to the real M Feeling.
To me it is more of a 2M Coupe, instead of an M2.
I hate this BMW politics of making cheap pocket money by omitting these small details.

Maybe there still a bit of hope for M Mirrors, as both recent M5 concept cars didnt feature them, but on the final product they were present:

They look cool though

People, if they bring a mirror with the CSL, does it mean that earlier M2 are not M cars? The sword cuts both ways.

But it's not one of the other M cars. It's a 2 series.

I don't think so. I think it means BMW will gladly add cost when it comes to mirrors when you are paying 100k for a car!

Seriously. Anyone rioting over the presence or absence of said mirrors I think is buying the wrong car. Do the mirrors make them corner better? Stop better? Add torque? HP? If so I am in.

Purist long time M owners desire the consistent styling that M has always stood for. If you are new to the mark, then missing elements won't matter to you...
