Strongly considering an M2
Coming from an E90 M3, I've been thinking about a new car for a while now. I absolutely love the car but I want something with newer tech. I've test driven an M4 and did not like it at all. It felt huge for a coupe, steering was lacking, and not to mention the terrible exhaust note they have(not the one they pump in through the speakers lol). The M2 is the perfect size coupe especially since BMW's just keep getting bigger and bigger with every generation.
I wanted to know if there were a lot of previous E9x M3 owners that have moved over to the M2 and your take on the car. Do you miss the S65? |

dont' buy it. too much low end torque. too small for today's standards. too nimble. too easy to drive fast.
j/k get it by all means you won't look back as confirmed by many E9xM owners.

Came from an e93 m3. The most obvious immediate difference to me was the low end torque. The m2 feels a lot stronger at low speeds. Honestly, I don't feel the interior is that much lower class.

I will deviate from everyone else a little bit. I finally had the chance to drive an M2 for the first time on Monday while I'm on business trip in Munich. It was a 6MT.
I have to say it's one of my favorite Ms currently made. I also like the M3/4 ZCP although they are very big cars. The steering on the M2 was more or less what I expected, nothing that special but good for EPS. Exhaust sounded good. Gear shift was ok, not quite as accurate as I hoped. You get torque, but you trade the crazy rush to redline from the S65. Personally, I would not trade my E92 M3 for the current M2, but maybe I would change my mind if it had an S55. Still a wonderful car though. Seen a few LCI's driving around and it looks absolutely fantastic. Noy trying to start arguments, just my 2 cents. Also keep in mind I don't DD my E92. |

I'll be able to confirm my thoughts soon as I traded in my E90 M3 for an LCI M2 which arrives in around 6 weeks. I loved the M3 but missed the low end torque of other cars I owned prior. especially for driving around town the S65 was never able to come into its element properly. in saying that nothing felt or sounded better than screaming up to red line.

It really isn't, but the fact that critics only moan about the interior says a lot for the rest of the car as a whole

Interior is what it is, though I think most of us would've preferred to pay a couple thousand more for better seats, different color options, and possibly wet carbon (I can't stand fingerprints though). Sat in an Alfa quad the other day and it's a different level of class in there compared to the m3. Then again, didn't buy the m2 for the interior!

Dad just went from e90 m3 to mini back to m2 about 4 months ago. Loves the low end torque compared to the e90 m3. Next year might be getting a carbon roof and leather wrapped dashboard from IND.

I hope you're also strongly considering waiting...don't know what the wait list is like in Baltimore, but not too far away from you, I am still waiting for my car after 11 months of putting down a deposit...so you may want to get your name on a list at least while you consider your options. Just a thought.

Thanks for all your input guys! My local dealer actually just got one in but unfortunately it's DCT so I didn't bother with a test drive. I've been told the wait time is around 9 months here. Still trying to find a dealer with a 6MT so I can give it a good test drive. Last edited by Shiza; 09-11-2017 at 08:37 AM.. |

I actually like the fact that it has a N55 in it instead of the S55. I think the S55 produces a terrible exhaust note and is one of the main reasons i would never do an F8x. |

IMHO, the S55 is just a more responsive engine than the N55T, which is why I think it would be worth it in the end.

The weight differential b/w an E93 and the F87 didn't pop out at you? First thing I noticed.

I have been manual in more mundane machines to exotics. My first DCT with the M2. It is very very enjoyable. I do not miss a manual at all. Again- offer to drive the car no matter the gearbox and see if you actually like the M2 to begin with. |

Many thanks for your reply and advice. I have the same line of thinking and agree with you. However, both my cars are over 10 years old now and the urge to get into something fresh and modern is quite strong. Thanks |
