The re-71rs seem to be heavier than all options. What did yours weigh? A 265/35r19 lists at 30lbs! RS3's are lighter and a good compromise/added grip vs MPSS. Those options weigh around 24-26 I believe. How loud are they on the street? What sizes did you run?

Big fan of the Yokohama AD08R here! Haven't run them on the M2 yet but have gone through several sets on a Cayman S. I found them to be a great balance of dry traction, wet traction, heat tolerance, and low road noise for that DD duty. These are some of the best tires I've driven to date since Dunlop stopped making the Star Spec ZI, and in the Cayman they'd go pretty long before getting greasy. I cannot compared to the RE-71R though from what I've heard they probably would out do the AD08R in the dry.

Long life was not a strong suit, though the Cayman was pretty hard on tires with weight on the rears and not nearly enough reasonable options for getting camber into the fronts.

Agree. Also the fact that when he switched out from MPSS he also went square. That will give some improvement in wear on the outer front compared to the staggered setup.

All, what about a moderately competitive autocross tire? Is the MPSS in a 265 fr/275 rear or maybe even 275 all around going to be somewhat competitive?

I'd love to get RE71 but this is my quasi daily driver. IMO you can't touch the RE71 for autocross. I had them on a modified Evo and it flew.

Would the RE-11 be a better autocross/daily driver tire? They are discontinued but looks like tire rack has a few sets left.

I just ordered some Pirelli Trofeo R tires and am going to run these on my OE wheels until Apex ships my new FL-5 wheels in January 2018. After that, I'll switch back to my usual NT05 tires or possibly BFG R1 tires. You can't beat the performance of the NT05 for the price.

You absolutely can run MPSS, MP4S, RE11, DSS, etc tires on the track, but they're ultimately street tires and they'll fall apart if you're a seasoned driver that's pushing the car to even 8/10.

Not running an M2, but saw this tire thread. Running M235i with tuner boost up to 275 Hp at the crank and significant increased torque. Had same issue as rich8566 with MPSS- got greasy at temperature and even though wear was even across face, the walls were soft and you get flaking and chunking of rubber down to the steel belts on the outside edges—would not recommend them for track. Right now running Hancook RS4's (235/R40/18 F, 255/R35/18 R) and they are very nice. Heat up well, maintain lots of grip, even wear, will last longer than RE71's. Paired with 19 lb 18" rims, shaved 3-5 seconds off lap time on track where 1:20 is an excellent time.

You must mean 375 hp at the crank, not "...Running M235i with tuner boost up to 275 Hp at the crank and significant increased torque."

Any thoughts on running a 265/40/19 RE71 on all four tires? Square setup should make rotation easier and a 40 series tire would add 2 mph or so to the top speed in 2nd gear. Plus they are about $50 cheaper a tire than 35 series

If these tires change the speed in any gear then that amounts to a change in gearing. So in this specific instance wouldn't this amount to slower acceleration? Also, what about the weight of this tire - can I assume it is heavier than the OEM tires? Last question - wouldn't you need to change out the staggered wheels since I don't think you'd want to rotate the rear rims to the front.

Lol, whoops the fronts would look like monster tires with 265/40.

It would be slower acceleration day to day but might help with not having to shift on certain autocross courses where there is a long straight and not worth it to shift to 3rd and back down to 2nd at the next turn. Running 275 or 285/35 would also do the same thing and lots of people are at least going 275/35 on the rear.
