So S55...but only 410hp? Guess that can be brought up quite a lot...

Sport seats = Nice
Brake upgrade = Nice

Now lets just wait and see what the price premium is going to be... $10K? $15k? 20? 25?

$10 to 15...I think its probably worth it. Wonder if I get an ED slot for next Summer/Fall

Not saying that the brakes/rotors in the (older) M2 CS test mule pictured below are CCBs, but to my eyes these look bigger than the ones sporting the base M2.

Forum fellow lemetier pointed out that those are Fxx M5/6 fronts (400mm) and a unique hybrid rear setup. The 4 piston rear caliper comes from the F8x M3/4 MCCB, disc friction ring is M5/6 sized (395mm), and disc hat (with incorporated handbrake drum) is new, he commented.

So this makes the M2 CS the "true" M car? Originally heard lots of no "S" engine = not real M (and no M Mirrors = Not real M lolz)

Wondering if by having the S55 engine, does it make it optional to have the M performance exhaust from the F8x? While I like the normal Exhaust made, I seem to be in the minority and people actually preferred the noise from the original engine.

The "reliable" source was the first person who said it was not DCT only. Therefore validating his/her reliability.

That source has been pretty spot on with most of the information so far.

It has always been a true M car - everyone claiming its not has most likely not driven it.

Drove and race both M2 and properly tuned m235i
M2 engine + DCT is Slower
M2 only little bit better on handling

Mod list on 235 was
-jb4 + pure stage 2
-ohlins DFV
- No LSD

That make me think twice to buy an M2 with N55
BUT
An M2 with s55 engine makes me drooling

I can make my wife’s old Elantra (now gone thankfully) into a race car with enough money and patience.

At the end of the day it’s still an Elantra.

This car will have more than 410hp for sure.

The quoted power is for marketing purpose and should be taken as such.

The S55 in this car should have a similar output as the regular M3/M4.

The performance difference between the CS and the regular M2 will be like night and day. The difference will be mostly from the manic power of the S55 and a re-calibrated diff.

But if you throw warranty caution to the wind you’ll be able to get a lot more out of the S55.

lol right? I mean, yeah, throw a properly setup coilover suspension on any car and it its instantly better...

On the power output, I mean M3/M4 ZCP is 444hp (425 non-ZCP)? You think they are going to bump up against that? I'm guessing this will be 410/420 de-tuned from the M3/M4

Commented earlier (see posts #591 and #694 in a dedicated M2 CS thread) that I trust that BMW M will walk the smart road by offering choices (transmission, brakes, wheels, seats, etc.: standard versus optional), as this may offer an advantage over the competition, garner interest of a broad market of potential customers and allow to keep the M2 CS base price (zero options) attractive.

If BMW M wouldn't do that, it would IMHO miss a golden opportunity in many ways.

And remember about the bigger brother M4 CS: "not a limited series, just limited by production capacity" confirmed BMW M CEO Frank Van Meel in May 2017 (source: here - in the same interview he also confirmed that the production volume of the base M2 will be increased). IMHO it makes sense to expect to hear that same phrase again at the future M2 CS launch.

BMW has been known to adjust power output numbers at intro, specifically on M cars (I suspect they have more latitude tweaking engine maps and the resulting output on S engines vs mass market stuff). One thing that's certain is that the number never goes down from its pre-production value.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it would still seem that if you aren't on a list at this current point in time, chances are you will not be getting one.

Leipzig can only make 2,000 M2s a month right now. BMW is pouring billions into the plant. Doubt those improvements will be ready anytime soon. This car is going to be super limited. Unless we’re expecting BMW to manufacture them using magic or somehow magically boost capacity without affecting other more popular mass market cars produced there.

Anything less than 2,000 M2 CS ( no way it will be that high) will make it a long wait.

BMW has two options here. Make it a cheap upgrade and cannobolize regular M2 and M4 sales. Or make it expensive and limited and get the PR they want.
