Have you considered trading it in for a BMW i3 instead? It is a lot safer.

I will always miss my 2011 e92 M3. The sound was exotic, and I did ED with my Dad. A great car.

I pick up my M2 next week, and I will love it just as much i'm sure.

The F82 M4 was at the top of my list, but these cars keep getting bigger - The M2 reminds me of the e46 M3 in size

BTW - If memory serves, only one Mag was able to get the e92 M3 to 60 in 3.9 seconds. It was generally 4.0-4.1

It is really cracking me up that you guys think driving a docile M2 with DSC off is a death wish. I would love to see you guys drive an old GT2 or Viper! Everyone who owned a pre 2000 sports car must have a death wish!
What about the guys who raced 12 cylinder Ferraris and the like with old motorcycle sized tires and drum brakes in the 1950s? I learned a lot about car control skills when I got a ride in a Barchetta 166 MM years ago. All engine, little tire grip and dodgy brakes, just the way Enzo liked it.

That's a small car with a small V12, and an old car 'easy' to stay on/over limits(sliding), because of the non radial tyres back then. M2 has torque is 2.5 times heavier, so when momentrum steps in. PLUS the PSS tyres are WAY grippier than from a 166MM which means grip-slip if you're not aware.

But I get your point. I love snowdriving/sliding with a winterwheel setup. Feels a bit like the 166MM I guess(I drove 1948 XK120/140/150 Mk2 Jags and even an Aston DB4 Superleggera'61 when I worked at a Jag dealership about 20 years ago...)

Cheers

Just because old cars didn't have stability control doesn't mean that turning it off today is a good way to live nostalgically. Do you also drive without your seatbelt?

Don't get me wrong I occasionally turn it off for spirited or track driving, but don't see much value in doing this as part of my everyday commute.

You could drive your whole life without DSC and not get an accident, but your anecdotal evidence does not replace the obvious safety benefits DSC provides in an unexpected situation.

Most of my cars did not have stability control, and I never missed it. I would rather have a good predictable chassis and an LSD. Now that being said I would probably turn it on at highway speeds in inclement weather.

Seriously. STFU about stability control.

Back to the TOPIC... about once a month I ridiculously evaluate my next move for when my M235i lease is up and I can't help but always come back to the E9x M3 vs M2. I have virtually zero interest in the F8x due to its size, price, and an engine that makes me want to put a screwdriver through my ears whenever I hear its exhaust and fake induction sounds. I had an E90 M3 for a few years and loved it but it gave me a couple small complaints and then Seattle winter rolled around (which is a real kick in the nuts for drivers here) and I let it go.

My M235xi is probably the best car I've ever owned for my uses but I still want the full M for stupid reasons that make no logical sense. So I've owned the M3 and done a long test drive of the M2 plus lived in my 2er for 15 months. The M3 has the most stunning engine of all M cars ever IMO but the M2's powerplant is more street usable. The M2 handling balance drives circles around the M3 but it doesn't feel as special or "racecar" as the M3. Looks, interior, and comforts are subjectively tied for me. Fuel costs are a wash because I only care how often I have to fill up and it is equal between the two in my driving environment: about every 200 miles.

I could keep going comparing points, but all in all the pro/con list between these two basically neutralizes any clear decision so it will end up being an emotional choice in the end. If I can find the right car, I'm pretty sure the M3 will win a war of the feels. Either way, both are astounding options to have.

I haven't driven the M2, but the e92 M3 is definitely a better looking car. It will take a special car to beat an e92 M3 in my book. Its engine is engaging and intoxicating.

Went from E92 M3 after 5 years with a few mods (stoptech trophy bbk, k&w v3) to an M2. I have the car nearly 2 months now and its just passed the break in service, biggest advantage for me the torque the M2 pulls hard from 1500 rpm while the e92 i had to brake a lot of rules to enjoy it in UK public roads. Don't get me wrong i loved my M3 the engine, steering, throttle response, sound the looks but as a daily driver i couldn't enjoy it. Below 4,500 rpm the car was pretty docile not thrilling, after you passed that mark then it got alive but you can only do that freely on the track ! Otherwise yes interior was more upscale in the M3 ie better leather , seats etc however more fragile too the M2 even though has rougher interior feels more durable !

If the M2 was released with the full compliment of M, interior, CF roof, individual M setting programability, bespoke engine, mirrors, ect... I'm one of the guys that would've been glad to pay the premium for such a car. It's a great car for the price, it'll just take a little more for me to give up the awesome e92.

I agree with you.

Get the M2, the car feels so nimble compared to my old e92 M3. The new idrive/electronics also make it well worth it.

As for the leather? I like the M2 Dakota leather better; it feels thicker and wont stretch like the Novillo leather. Just my two cents.

I would say both are very nice colours you cant go wrong, i went with LBB as doesn't need much washing often while BSM even though it looks really mean it hides some of the car's details.

Very informative thread (minus the DSC nonsense).

I am in a similar boat I guess. Had the E92 M3 for about 9 months then I got rid of it and got the E70 X5M. Love the X5M and it has it's own advantages, however, can't help missing the sports car feeling. Thinking about picking up a M2 and just not sure if I will be making the right move or not. This thread helped somewhat and I am definitely open to other comments and suggestions.
