Yer MORE tax on my French M2

This blithering idiot, for those who don't recognise him, is the socialist president of France. He has just increased the pollution tax on the manual M2 and other cars emitting more than 191 g of CO2 from an already sky high € 6500 to € 10,000 as from january ! That's $ 11,000. And that comes on top of the 20% VAT rate. I'm really pissed as my M2 should be arriving in the spring so I'm going to have to pay all that money to keep this banana republic above water.
The money from pollution tax is supposed to subsidise electric and low pollution cars but of course most of it is sidetracked to allow the socialist government to continue spending taxpayers' money. Can you Americans imagine paying $ 90,000 for an M2 ?

As someone that travels to India and China regularly - France (As a nation) could eliminate CO2 completely (in nation) and it would not even be blip on the radar for those that want to lower CO2.

We here Belgium people call it "the jealousy tax". Our former socialistic government created a similar tax for those who bought there cars in the name of there companies. The result was in opposite direction. Most of those owners sold there big cars. The tax was a big failure.
Although one of the last convulsions of this idiot, for you a bitter pill to swallow.

Yet we keep allowing the trucking companies spew thick black diesel emission b/c it'll put them out off business to comply with the same rules as cars.

Also becoming a socialist's paradise. The amount given to the government by the way of GST, LCT and stamp duty is incredible.

That being said, at least in Australia we have a pretty good quality of life so paying more for things isn't so bad.

I keep telling myself the same thing but it IS rather nice here, living in the mountains, and at least we have a presidential election next spring. However, whatever the government here, the country is rapidly going down the drain. As Pol says it's more of a jealousy tax than anything. It ties in with the socialist attitude here which is "If I cant have it, I want to make damn sure YOU can't have it either". I did consider Australia but it's too far away from the rest of the world LOL and it's too flat. New Zealand maybe ? A beautiful country but I don't think I could get used to living upside down. So I'll just pay up in the knowledge that in coming years, as the CO2 tax increases exponentially, no-one will be able to afford anything more than a Trabant - imported of course because the French car industry will have gone out of business as it will only be able to sell low end cars which make little profit.

Our pseudo socialist country, a paradise for non-workers/unemployed/refugees thinks the M2 6MT is off course less environment friendly so:
M2 DCT from € 79,900,00
M2 6MT from € 86,700,00

Cheers to socialism...

Correct! The jealousy tax....after introducing this tax the government received less tax income on company cars then before because most people sold their big cars. It was a total failure of a total idiot (the previous prime minister).... They f*cked up and they did not change it back again...

In Belgium the VAT is 21% and for a manual M2 with 199 co2 you have to pay $2.350 extra registration tax... An DCT with 185 co2 is less. It's stupid but anything under $2.500 I can live with.... When I bought my Z4M the registration amount was even more...

Wow that a lot more.... A DCT car (with lower Co2) would maybe be a lot more interesting (financially)..? ln the Netherlands the financial difference between the 6 MT and DCT is also pretty big that you must be a really hardcore manual lover to put down al that extra cash because of the higher Co2 tax. I love manual tranmissions, but under these circumstances even I would probably order the DCT instead of the 6 MT...

Yeah living costs are inflated in Europe. I have family in London and they are always moaning about the taxes. Then you have VAT, CO2 charge, high insurance rates, speed cameras everywhere.. no wonder everyone there drives 1.8L diesel hatchbacks.

Well, also try to look at the bright side. I got the maximum registration tax (taxe de mise en circulation) for my M2 6MT: EUR4,957.

In your region they charge you less than half of that tariff.
