Hi. What does internet hotspot do?

It creates a wifi network so you can connect with your smartphone and use the car's SIM connection instead of the phone's connection?

Once you connect from your iPhone to the Car's wifi.... can you browse internet from your smartphone...or do you have to subscribe to any mobile data plan?

Yikes I've had my car for almost a year and have yet to use anything in iDrive! I wish there was a way to opt out of that crap especially that widescreen on the dash!

No. Your MY14 has NBT. You need NBT EVO hardware with modifications (additional RAM) for ID5 software. This new NBT EVO hardware is for MY17 cars (and MY16 7 series).

There's always a line and some will fall on one side and others on the opposite side. Those on one side will always be be happy for being first then unhappy for not having what the others have that came later.

You can either be happy with what you have, continually upgrade, unhappy that you didn't wait or conintually worry about when to jump in.

Darn, I was really hoping it could be used as a trackpad, that would make it much more useful for CarPlay.

The Idrive controller in my wife's MY17 X6 can be used as a trackpad, you draw the letters and it shows it on the screen or selects it in the menu.

In Germany its 1 month Free then 10 euros (!!!) for the gb each month... Which is hilarious - i was lucky enough to get on of the first updated m4's a few weeks back

You have Euro Specs? I'm assuming, because our Wifi/BMW connected - all of the idrive web goodies aren't working in Germany with our US Spec MY17 X6.

iDrive 5.0 was integrated into almost every new model vehicle BMW makes.

I took it as being more for your passenger(s? lol) to use a tablet or laptop while you drive and they are sitting without any other actual responsibilities at the time.
