Darn, I was really hoping it could be used as a trackpad, that would make it much more useful for CarPlay.

Why, you wanted to pinch to zoom?

Is it free always or only during the trial period for the wifi hotspot?
I think it's free for the 3 years. Then after you going have to subscribe to connected drive.

Perfect! Happy that my car will have iDrive 5.0 when delivered… I also selected connected drive services + real time traffic information + remote services + Apple Carplay. I see zero need for the Wifi Hotspot (everybody has 3G or 4G on their phone) or the function of internet on the screen of the car when you have a smartphone.

Some good stuff in there. I know we do not buy the M2 for the idrive, but since it comes with the car it's nice that it's full-featured.

In the US we dont have an option for the sound system. They all come with the HK system which isnt as good as M4 HK system but its ok.

Ok so I had my appointment with the BMW genius yesterday and he showed me a couple things.

On the navigation screen you can pinch to zoom and use the track to move around the map. Way faster than using the interactive map mode which was the only option on the older models.

Also if you tap the media button while on the media screen it pops up the media sources menu or if you double tap from any other screen it does the same.

Very nice. While it doesn't quite make up for not having a touchscreen, at least there is an alternative for certain options.

Also just discovered that both USB ports you can stream media from. That's one from the arm rest as well as the one by the cup holders.

NICE, that is so much nicer than having to pinch a cord under the arm rest like on my old M235i.

I'm really hoping I can add CarPlay to my 2017, it was a 7/30/16 build...

That's great to hear! I was wondering if both USB ports were "live", i.e, good for more than just charging. Thanks. -scr

My car was built around the same time as your's and have recently taken delivery.
Once logged into BMW Connect, one of the first things it offers is the option of Apple CarPlay for a fixed fee.I can't see it being any different for you,so you should be good to go.

I won't be taking up the option but it's good to know it's available.

I have a July build and I just logged into my BMW connected drive account and it's not available as a add on.

Every time I've tried logging into the Connected Drive store it just errors out. Probably don't have it set up with my account yet and I bet my M235i is still on there. I really picked the car up in a rush so I didn't get to go over anything and since I'd already owned a M235i for the past 2 years I knew enough to get myself over to my detailer's shop just fine.

Once I pick it up from paint protection film I'll need to schedule an appointment with one of the geniuses and have them set everything up and show me the new stuff.

Thanks for the tip, I tried it and it work after buying it through the Connected Drive store. It's wireless so you don't need a cable.

How is the music quality? People complained about the quality over BT vs. USB? Or is it connecting over WiFi?
