People driving base 911 looks for badge and prestige. Those look for NA responsiveness and sound are of a minority. Those motorsports enthusiasts are also being looked after by Porsche. That's why they still have the NA engine in the GT3s and reintroduce the 6MT in the 991.2 GT3s. |

What is certain is a higher version of the M2 will be coming out. Given what we have seen with the M4, I am expecting some sort of announcement by end of the year. Perhaps with the possibility of more than one variant. |

"The customer likes this kind of Cayman and Boxster, very sporty, very powerful expression. So most likely we take this feedback and cultivate this also in the future." Read more: http://m.drive.com.au/motor-news/por...#ixzz4NhdyncAA : Apparently not. It sounds the same as what BMW execs said about the M2. I could hear the same German accent .. |

Record companies are selling vinyl records again, though in very limited quantities: although it's logic defying in our robotizing, electrifying digital age, there's apparently a market for it - it sells. Nostalgia or not: vinyl heads don't mind that the sound ain't as perfect as digital and that you got to flip the record to continue listening. The same reasoning applies IMHO for the manual transmission: never as fast as the M-DCT/PDK/DSG and more work to handle/coordinate for the driver, but still in demand and on offer (more and more as a statement in high performance cars). Look at how Porsche marketed its choice for the 'manual only' in the Cayman GT4 back in 2015: "We listened to our customers - More emphasis on fun than on a top time at the track". Fair enough, an important reason indeed, but top reason #1 was of course to ensure that the Cayman GT4 could not tailgate the twice as expensive GT3 RS. But anyway, a choice by Porsche that can be applauded (and possibly inspired also by the 2011 BMW 1M success formula): small car taken to another level, limited production, manual only, competitive price-point (total package compared to the rest of the portfolio), rave reviews. It will induce the competition to continue offering manuals too in some high performance cars - even as a statement. Cannot see BMW shelving the idea of a manual transmission for the future M2, as long as cars don't go full electric.

For a car that they can sell (at MSRP) in 5 minutes after they take delivery if you were to pull out?

I wouldn't do anything non-refundable. Not enough is known yet. Transmission? I'll only take a 6MT. Specs? Price? My dealer took a $1K refundable deposit up until the car gets a build spot.

They just say it so that they know you are committed. If you've found a dealer willing to take only $1000 on a non-existent car they can't logically hold your deposit even if they say or want to - and they know it. So JDI. |

Discussed the CS and CSL today with the local dealer here, I am on the list as the first one for both and we need to see what is going to happen. In the meantime, I can wait another 12 months before we head something.
I will buy another toy to play with next to the M2. When either arrives, I will pick one up and be one happy MR |

The general model update thread had a comment from the guy that releases the info that there is some kind of M2 CS in development but you won't see if before the LCI next year.
