Moving on from my M2

Well after 2 plus years of amazing M2 ownership I've decided to move up (or over) to a F82 2020 M4 Competition. I was able to get one of the "Heritage Edition" packages in Imola red. Honestly, its bitter sweet because I really did love my M2, but was set on getting an M4 for my next car as its a little bigger and a few more bells and whistles. After seeing the spy photos of the upcoming G82 I realized that the time to act was now as the 2020 inventory is shrinking pretty quickly and I am just not a fan of that Lexus looking front grill on the upcoming car. I wish I had the financial means (and garage space to have both cars) but alas the M2 was sacrificed. Anyway, wanted to thank all the M2 forum posters who regularly post on here. Have gotten tons of pertinent and useful information off these threads. Going to check out the M3/M4 side of things now...thanks again!

Don't let the door hit you in the ... ah, just kidding, the M4 looks great, I hope you enjoy it!

I too have moved on from the M2, but I went domestic.

Congrats on the transition!

I'd be interested to hear you do a comparison of the two cars after you've gotten comfortable with the M4. It's such a beautiful car...

Enjoy!

Thanks guys, right off the bat...can confirm that from a sound perspective the M2 wins that fight (which I knew it would), however the M4 doesn't sound bad with the upgraded exhaust. I'm really enjoying being able to dial in my engine, shift, damper and steering settings and customizing them to what i like. Still working through all the bells and whistles...but do miss the little M2s engine note!

These are the only two pictures I snapped at the dealership...yesterday was whirlwind signing all the paperwork and then getting it home last evening. Will get some more pics soon. And yes...will definitely do a comparison review of the the M4 and the M2. It should be an apples to apples comparison as both cars are DCT.

Thanks! Getting it paint corrected, ceramic coated and front PPF next Monday. Should look killer when its all done! For the life of me I cannot figure why car dealerships cannot properly wash a car? Its a brand new car and of course there's the typical light swirls in the paint from a crappy wash job or car wash. It was washed before it was put in the showroom before I ever had a chance. As soon as I bought it, I told them to make sure not to "courtesy" wash it and that I would take it as is.

Congrats on the new toy! Very nice.
Assuming bigger was better for family reasons?

Yeah, the kids are growing and it was getting a little cramped in the back. Im not a sedan guy...the 4 door look just doesnt appeal to me on a "sports" type car, so I always lean toward the coupe. Getting in and out is a lot easier with the M4, even with 2 doors. The M4 is not a daily, but in the warmer months it will get used on the weekends and for some family outings. The extra trunk space and interior space definitely was a big factor. The fact that I dont really have to trade any performance and got some more usable space was the selling point. If I had the means I would have probably gone M5 competition, but thats outta my league and its obviously a sedan. Plus the M4 just looks awesome!

I was a dealership washboy in high school, so I think I can answer that question. Yes, yes, I know, when I was in high school most vehicles were pulled by a horse...

The wash person is probably the lowest paid, lowest skilled person at the dealership, competing strongly with the lot boy who runs out to fetch your car when you return your loaner. They are not properly trained, work under the worst conditions and no doubt every time they start to wash/wax/polish/clean a car, a higher priority project comes up and interrupts them.

I remember once when I was at my local Porsche dealer... they had a team of washers come out weekly (I think) that did the entire lot at once. Pressure washing, using the same rag/towel on all of the cars. It didn't matter what it was, a used Kia or a brand new Turbo 911.

FWIW, I never never never let any dealership wash or even vacuum out my car when it's in for service, and if I order one new, I specify that they are to take off the shipping protection material but that's all, no "polishing". When you buy off the lot, as most of us do, well... it's probably gonna need some correcting.

Yeah makes complete sense. You would just figure that the last thing a dealer wants to do with a brand new car is mar its brand new paint up before its even sold...maybe invest a little time in training? Unfortunately as you alluded to, my car already had the complimentary "wash and shine" before it was put on the showroom floor and I even knew about the car. I've pretty much just come to the conclusion that unless its a car I order, I'm including the cost of paint correction in the price of the car.

Beautiful car, congrats! And great move...that next M4 is a travesty with the grill they put on it.

I picked up my car straight from delivery from Germany at the dealer, and they even managed to put scratches on the clear coat from removing the shipping protection material lol. Good thing the plan even then was to bring the car right to get color corrected and coated.

Thanks! And yes...the primary motivation behind getting this car now was the fact that no matter which way I look at the G82 I cant get past that front end. Even the renderings, which tend to always portray things with best possible design cues, it just kinda sucks.
