I hope so The two dealers I spoke with said the set came with 235 fronts and 255 on the rear (the rim is .5" wider for the rear, so while I wanted to go square, the idea of the same size tire on different size rim, just did not feel right -so I'm ok with the 255s in the rear). My local dealer gave me 7.5% off the price, so that works too.

Do you know what ship your car is on? Mine is on the Asian Captain.

Thank you for any feedback!!
Tire Rack is recommending a square wheel / tire combination with 18 x 8 inch Rial P10 wheels (black or silver) with 245 / 40 / 18 Michelin X-ICE Xi3 tires. The price is very reasonable, about $1500. There is a group-by package listed elsewhere here on the forum that also offers 18 inch Apex wheels (I believe 8.5 inch wide) with the same Michelins or an Alpin performance winter tire (not as good in snow) but that package is almost $2000. In my opinion, the Apex wheels are nicer looking, but not sure it's worth an extra $500. I'm leaning toward the Tire Rack package. Those are the only two 18 inch packages I'm aware of.

I like the Alpin as I have them on MY GT3, but honestly only drove in cold but not on snow. Maybe time to try something new.

That does not sound correct.
1. BMW is recommending a 235/40/18 tire and a 255/35/18 tire
2. More importantly, BMW is recommending a 8.5" wheel for the fronts and a 9.0" wheel for the rears. I would assume for clearance issues?

In short, make sure they are not giving you wheels for a M235/M240, because those are different.

Hi, would anyone know the weight of a 640M ? If you have one available it would be nice to weigh it for me ;-)
(NB - even with the tire, as long as you tell the exact tire info).
Key question: lighter or heavier than the 19" OEM...
Thanks :-)

NB - posting this on several topics, I hope it does not annoy you !

I believe the 640M winter set ordered from BMW includes a staggered set of 18s with Michelin PA4s. Not sure if the staggered arrangement is good for light snow like in Vancouver

Usually I?m used to square setup and narrower tires but the 640M is staggered, wider tires so not sure if good on light snow and hills. Not use if I?m making sense?

Rim feedback

happy new year everyone. Can you guys tell me whether these are worth it? I need a winter wheel/tire setup. My dealer is telling me he will give me a staggered 640 18' setup for my '17 F80.

From what I have read, it can come square. The weird part is that the front wheels are a half an inch less width - but on the M3, they put the same size tire as the rears and for the M2, they sometimes ship staggered (mine were).

But I agree - wider tires are NOT better in the snow.

640m are staggered F&R 8.5"/9"

Tyres sizes are square and sized below

M2 235/40/18 all round
M3/M4 255/40/18 all round

Here's my AW M2 with 640m [refurb'd in orbit grey] c/w Mich PA4's 235/40/18 all round.

yes, that is exactly what I said...

and if you checkout realoem, the tires are not always square - mine, came from BMW as 235/40/18 fronts, and 255/35/18 rears - as noted.

But/and, my point is/was, why put the same size tires on two different sized rims?

The idea is to use the narrowest practical tire (front and rear), and 235 is fine for 8” to 9.5” wheels. Also allows you to rotate the tires (though that requires remounting, since the 9” wheels stay on the rear).

I don't think that makes sense - or maybe I misunderstood you...

If you can put a 235 tire on a 9.5" wheel, then you apparently can put it on a 10" wheel - because that's what BMW does...

and notbody is going to rotate tire/wheel combo when it involves removing the tire and re-installing/balancing - the whole reason you rotate tires (which BMW does not recommend) is to extend the life of the tire and thus save money and not have to buy new tires. If you rotate AND have to mount/re-mount, your cost benefit is so upside down it is not even funny.

I only said you could rotate them, it wasn’t my main point.

You asked why put the same size tire on slightly different sized rims, and the answer is to keep the contact patch as small as you reasonably can.
