For people who have owned the OG M2 & an S55
Hi,
I’ve been an OG M2 owner for about 4 years. I was and still am in love with it, by far the best car I’ve ever owned. It looks stunning, goes like stink, and sounds incredible. Today I “upgraded” to a M2 competition by part exchanging my OG M2 and a fistful of dollars at a BMW dealership My decision to upgrade was off the back of many reviews, stating the competition is the better car, the one to have… Chris Harris and many other critics… And to be honest I massively regret my decision I’m gutted if I could go back in time and swap back I would but I’m legally the new owner of the M2 Competition. realistically I think I’ll have to sell up and buy back an OG It’s the sound, the OG M2 sounds incredible, for me going from the OG to the Comp. Is like going from a V10 to an electric car, yes I’m going very fast in the M2 comp but because the sound is so muted I’m not enjoying it nearly as much as I did in the OG M2. Sorry I don’t want to upset anybody I know the S55 is an incredible engine, maybe I will learn to love it, but the N55 in the OG just sounds soo soo good. Is there anybody out there who feels the same? And is it possible to remedy the sound of the S55 to be good as the N55? I’ve heard good things about the active autoworke exhausts. But I guess I’m weary I could spend a load of money “trying” to make the S55 sound better, but it will never sound like the N55 And whether I’m just better off putting it down to experience and going back to the OG M2 I appreciate the s55 is technically better and highly tuneable But realistically I don’t think there are many people who have driven the OG M2 and can say it’s slow. Is there away to SIGNIFICANTLY improve the sound of the S55? Please only reply if you’ve genuinely owned the OGM2 and an S55 in any form Last edited by timchump; 10-14-2023 at 06:28 PM.. |

You can never get an M2C to sound like an OG M2. There are options to improve the sound but it still will be inferior to your old M2. Here is a link to M Performance exhaust on an M2C.

I have a 2020 M2 CS DCT, but in some ways miss my 2018 OG M2 DCT. The LCI 2018 M2 was a massively underrated car. The OG M2 definitely feels lighter. |

Yes I think I’ll wait a few months before I makemy final decision
You’re right the OG feels lighter, I preferred the handling characteristics of OG, the slightly skittish nature The Comp does feel more composed but less fun and engaging The OG was never really gonna kill you by being skittish it just adds to the experience Im already thinking if I sell up I’ll hopefully find a great example of an OG with the money I have available, be able to do some really nice mods Last edited by timchump; 10-14-2023 at 07:02 PM.. |

I have a '17 M2 Perf package car and a '20 CS. Both have the M Perf exhaust. The OG sounds much better.

Unfortunately the N55 will always have that great sound which the S55 can't match, it's true. Perhaps EU demands and emissions may have had some influence in the upgrade to the S55 from what I've read posted. However aside from exhaust solutions, I'm afraid you may have have to suffer through the increased speed, performance, handling, braking, and exterior upgrades. The good news is that there's ton of BMW dealers and private buyers who may want to take that M2C off your hands. Don't let them try and tell you otherwise. Most dealers would love an F87C on their lots, so you could easily sell and rebuy another great OG probably at a very favorable price as the market softens.

Not surprising. See my posts from the M3C vs OG M2 thread. No point in having an M2C IMHO. Better off with an M3C if you want the S55 as there is no particulate filter.
The OG M2 has a raw feel to it. |

Hi, I feel you
My experience was similar to yours I traded in my 2016 m4C for a 2018 n55 I had the m4c for 2 years I never fell in love with the M4 as I did with the m2 The faster M4C doesn’t feel as fun as the M2. I know you have an m2 not an m4 but the only time I miss the s55 is if I want to go faster then 270km the m4 with a stage one tune hit 300km I’m running the m2 with a stage two tune 410 whp and can get the same 1/4 mile time As my 505 whp m4 because I find it easier to get the power down I have draggy logs with 12.1-12.4 1/4 mile times with my m2 I only beat that time one with the m4 but usually would struggle more to achieve 12.1-12.3 time in the m4 So with 3 k I’m doing same times as a M2C I just wish I could have your seats my friend 👍 |

I think unless you really need the tuneability of the M2C for more power, I wouldn't trade an OG M2 for a M2C. It just doesn't make financial sense. On the street and not being pushed they are similar. That being said, personally I much prefer my M2C over an OG. When I bought mine they were just a few thousand different in price. To me the exhaust note isn't my main concern.

The S55 sounds worse, no doubt. An equal length midpipe can be installed to help things and it makes the car sound a lot better:
(not my car) You get used to it. In a pavlovian way, i now associate the buzzy-ness of the S55 with strong acceleration. I dunno, best of luck regardless with what you decide to do! |

I do prefer the big 2NH brakes of the Comp, the side mirrors, and the seat belts, but that's where it ends. I also prefer the low-end grunt of the N55 vs the S55. Quote:

As stated above, I did not OWN the S55, I only test drove the 2 examples I mentioned, and have since driven a local S55 car several times. My position hasn't changed. |

You're not the only one. I'm a huge F80/F82 fan, but literally the sound kept me from buying one. Unfortunately for the F80/F82, the F87 was introduced, and it sounded better, and was more fun to drive. I didn't even mind that BMW skimped on the F87 details, as it gave me the ability to individualize the car.
OG F87 > F80/F82 ...unless you're wanting the big power, then... F80/F82/F87C > OG F87 |

check out the new valvetronic exhaust setup, sounds pretty good to me.
the m2c is a better track car because of the cooling + more power but if you don't track it it really is not a worth while upgrade. the og sounds better than the comp but its not that great, if you want sound then get a e9x, now that is a good sounding car. I feel like OG owners think they have some sort of v12 sound on their cars or something. |

1. Talk about the power. 2. Talk about how the OG doesn't sound that great, and that something else sounds better. Bimmerpost always has the best confirmation bias of any board. |

I would venture to say that for most people the main reason to choose the OG over the C is price. Of course there are other reasons to like the OG but there are a lot of reasons to like the C also. I was looking for an OG when the C first came out but got almost the same deal by doing a European Delivery with 5% off MSRP. It was a no Brainer for me and now my car is worth around $13k dollars more than an OG.

However, I haven't seen a Comp be worth $13K over a comparable OG unless it's a '16/'17 non-LCI car. |
