This will be my next car after my E92. The M3/4 are just too far out of reach for me at the moment pricewise. I'm super excited and can't wait to see how this car develops. I hope it at least has fender flares like the M235i race car.

I had a 335i with PPK and I couldn't stand how laggy the throttle was. It was nearly impossible to cleanly downshift. |

Seems there are some that are upset that the N55 is being used rather than the S55, While some say there isn't even much of a difference between the S55 and N55.
Personally, I love the "supposed" looks of the M2. Also, It better have a LSD standard as this is an actual "M", not an M performance-part car. The fact that you can still add/ pay for even more "M parts" to the non-M235i is ridiculous. Just as it is to buy an "M performance exhaust" for a e9x M3 when it should be standard, as its an M! Why put an "M" badge before the 235i, then charge for more M parts to be added is just beyond me. I would rather get a CPO 335is for the same/cheaper price over an M235i because it has an N54 w/ extra radiator and the same hp/tq + the overboost function the 235 lacks, + DCT (even though I would get 6MT in any M) I can understand why BMW is going only F/I now, but I'll stick with the raw power of N/A for now. A v8 that revs to 8400rpm, or a 3.2l I6 that pushes 333hp to 8k rpm is what made "M" cars unique. Seems like a majority just want a lot of torque now; they should get an AMG then. I still would take the new 6MT M5 over a comparable AMG any day, but to add a digital exhaust sound to come out of the new M5's speakers...instead of the previous exotic sound of the V10... Exterior wise, the new M cars still look great. If price is reasonable for the M2, I would consider it as a DD as the fuel economy in my v8 isn't so great. But thats not why I buy an M. I buy an M for its unique engine and superior handling; which the new ones still have yes, buts its not just the same... This is all IMO |

But have you seen the price of the "Sport" Pack for the 918 Spider? If it's possible to take more money from the customers, why not? |

Also maybe not related, but I much preferred it when you could order you car exactly as you want. Look at these new M3/4. If you want HUD, you have to tick a very expensive packaged option. So IMO, the more choice we have, the better. I will agree with you that I'm not getting rid of my V8 though. It's too special to me, so I'll be looking to add instead. I'll also agree that people talk too much about having to have a tune. It's just not absolutely necessary IMO. I've driven a bone stock M6 at the Performance Center and the DSC light was just dancing away as the car struggled to put down power. I just don't think you need that N55 to put down 450hp with a tune for the M2 to be great.

Make the base M2 a stripper version with a $49K price. Let people decide what packages and options they want. If you want a $70K fully loaded version then configure it as such. For me, even AC would be an option.

m2 wont start anywhere below 50k, a decently equipped on with premium and tech or executive will be over the base price for the m3. if its anywhere near the level of a c7 z51 then it'll be the biggest steal of the century.

I am guessing 53-55 to start. M235 is 44 and base M3 is almost 63 so splitting the difference makes sense to me. We can always hope for lower.

No doubt this will be a great car- but IMHO, it'll accomplish something slightly different than M-cars of the past. |

Appreciating a high revving N/A engine has nothing to do with driving manual. It's about driving the car at the limit.
If you push the car hard you will see the benefits. If you putt around town low end torque is a lot more fun. If they don't heavily neuter the M2 it is going to be amazing. The M3 is already too big and it doesn't look as good as the cleaner M2 rendering. BMW will have to throttle the performance of the M2 especially since it has a similar I6 turbo power plant. Would have made more sense to go all out with a 4T. You could really push the envelope and avoid tempting too many m3 owners. I hope they do this right! |

here's the demographic of the people seemingly interested in the M2 thus far:
1-series owners: - Dazed and confused 1M owners: - Watching to see if the M2 is a refined clone of the 1M 2-series owners: - still confused about what the M235i is. E9X M3 owners - Complaining non-stop and not realising most of us don't care at all for their V8s. other BMW owners - Disoriented, but trying to remain happy |

I think its crappy because the E9x generation was the first time in BMW's history where a consumer actually debated and compared the performance merits of the standard car (335i) and the sports model (M3). BMW really f***ed up by offering a 'performance' model that wasn't ages better than the model below it, just slightly better (and at a very noticeable price premium). I mean for the E46, who cross shopped a 330i and an M3? If you had the money you'd go for the M3 every day of the week if performance was the first focus. That's all I meant. When I was still a kid and the e92 M3 came out, I really wanted one and thought they were the coolest thing. I finally drove one and my first reaction was "Man... what a let down."

Wonder if bmw going to make m2 a blutant instrument or more like a cayman. If it's more of the former, torquey engine with less zing but brutal acceleration I rather opt for the e46 m3 or cayman
