Because of the less limited factor it is very probable there will be an M2 Cabrio as it would help in the return of the initial investment. They might go ahead on progress as well. Both were not possible on the 1er M Coupe because of time and money but they did investigate even if it was for internal pleasure.

There will be no Individual for the BMW M2 or the 2er. The factory is not set-up to deal with Individual orders. There are dealers in the US submitting customer queries for Individual colours and interiors for the M235i despite being told it is not possible.

The problem is I'm gonna spend the next 18 months agonizing over DCT or manual. Dammit!

And how shortsighted is that of BMW? The reality is that the M2 will be a 60k + car if optioned properly and a heck of a lot more in my home town. For those who don't follow CDN pricing, a fully jammed M235 with A/T is 62k. My guess is 72-75 CDN for the M2. For those prices I'll expect a hell of an upgrade in terms of interior quality (ie materials) or at a minimum, the option to at least upgrade the interior to something more than you get in any run of the mill 1 or 2 ser worldwide.

Cover the interior in leather and call it the "Executive Pkg" rather than repeating ad nauseum that the factory can't accommodate your sacred "Individual" options. And put in a proper stereo system instead of that over priced and over rated HK crap. But heaven forbid, don't call it an "Individual" system that you can get on the rest of the ///M lines because "the factory" won't be able to accommodate it. And don't get me started on paint colours. Are some of the more interesting/exciting choices going to be made available or are they also going to be too "Individual" to talk about?

Yeah it's going to be one hell of a drivers car but some of us drivers would like a couple of creature comforts and a bit of a distinctive look and feel for something we're paying so dearly for. And if some of this fancy shit weighs too much, I'll gladly take a set of manual Recaro's up front please...and thanks. If BMW sticks to this mantra and gives us an M2 with a 118d interior, they're truly fucked. Pardon the English...but I'm sure they'll understand it in Garching just fine.

No individual colors would be highly disappointing.

Wrong, M2 will be just like all of the other current crop of M cars, it will be 'road' focused. Less than 1% of BMW's sold ever see a track, why do you think BMW would alienate the 99%. That doesn't mean it wont be a brilliant 'driver' focused vehicle, which it will be.

If you want the track car, you will have to wait for the CSL.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I'm not saying the M2 is going to be a track-day-special (e.g., 911 GT3), but I think we're going to see something more focused than the M3/4. Look at the positioning BMW has taken so far. The M235i Racing was a clear strategic decision to prepare M2 buyers with the mindset that the M2 will have racing heritage. Of course, that's equal parts marketing, and equal parts reality, but it's still a clear indication of their intent.

The M3/4 has become more of a GT car. It might have lost weight in it's most recent iteration, but it has still grown larger. The M2 is a chance to reset. Based on BMW's tack so far, I'm thinking that they're sailing in the direction of a more focused car that gives up some of the GT luxury of the M3/4 in favor of a sharper character.

I agree - the colors and options were limited on the 1M due to time/money/life cycle restrictions. There are no such limitations here - only those that BMW choose to "self impose", which just seems counter productive to me.

The color choices, for example, are already pretty limited on the M235 - but you can get Valencia Orange on a non-M sport 228? Who thinks this shit up? It makes no sense at all.

And the stock radio in the F22 is truly apocolyptic. Hope they can do better than that for 60K too.

Some of the renders just suck. I usually have a good intuition for such things and like the red one by the boat, first time I saw it I was like obviously no. This is definitely the closest to what it will be. Same thing about the 4 cyl. just doesn't make sense. And agreed!!! haha. You enjoying your 35?

I am. it is a good car, clearly has some, ahem, limitations (to be fixed in the M2 I am sure) but it is also lots of good fun. It is a nice upgrade to the 1er so I have to say I am happy with it so far.

On the renders, I have to agree - the orange one looks really legit - there have been some others that looked really awful...with the prototype out now, we should get better and better ideas of things.

You guys have to keep in mind that the N55 is an engine that the engineers at BMW know almost to perfection. They know exactly what do to do in order to make a reliable 380 hp engine, and you cant compare it to dinan, JB4s, cobbs etc because everybody knows that if you get one of those tunes there is a chance that you car might fail. BMW has to make a powerful engine but also reliable and I'm pretty sure they have it figured it out. For the transmission I'm pretty sure (and also really hoping) for both DCT and manual i love how BMW keeps the manual especially for their M Cars ( I really wasn't thinking they would do it for the M5 and M6 but they did) I'm one of those that would get a manual car as long as I can. Finally for the colors I'm really hoping for more metallic choices and different colors like a metallic green, and especially a dark metallic blue like an imperial blue metallic or a tranzanite blue and of course a valencia orange...for the interior either a silverstone II opal white or maybe get the cloth interior of the european (cloth hexagon alcantara) m235i I wouldnt mind that at all

All i hope for is that it's 100kg or more lighter than an M4. And 340 hp is for me enough with very low Co2 figures.

Who said it would be cheap? Are you really scoffing at a $45k difference? There is a world of difference between $55k and $100k.
