OP, I think you are giving BMW too much credit in thinking they are some maniacal company that sits back and plots ways to disappoint you. Have you considered that the launch of the M2 might not have been fully supported by all the top brass at BMW? That they put it out there as a sort of test balloon to see how the market would respond to their 180 degree shift away from their then trajectory? Think about it. What's been the recipe for M cars for the past decade or more? More size, more weight, more tech, more power. The M2 is a departure from that line of thinking with its smaller body and limited options. It's the closest thing to a pure "driver's car" that BMW has had the balls to make since the 1M. The 1M was a hit but was it a novelty? Could they sell the M2 in mass? The limited output of the factory they assigned to build the car seems to suggest at least some at BMW were not ready to go all in on the concept of a small, light, low tech, M car. If the M2 had flopped you can bet your ass the M2 competition would not be a reality.
Fast forward to today and we can declare the M2 to have been a success, IMO. The test balloon took off to heights that likely surprised some at BMW. So what would you do if you were a BMW exec? In the face of having proven this idea of small, light, driver focused CAN succeed, would you follow it up with stagnation? Do nothing and hope people keep buying? Dont forget, Merc and Audi are hot on your heels with small, powerful, driver focused cars of their own. The choice is clear, you have to up the anti and fight back with a better, stronger, M2. Here's how I look at it: Am I butt hurt that a better, faster, stronger, M2 is coming out just 18 months after I bought mine? Yeah, sure, a little. I'll be jealous of that dude I see rolling in one. But here's the kicker. If the M2 comp does well then in 18 to 24 months, THAT guy who I was jealous of will be all tweaked out of shape because his M2 comp that he was king of the hill with has been surpassed by an even BETTER M2! The cycle repeats and repeats. And in 5 to 7 years from now when I'm ready to trade up from my current and much loved M2, I can only imagine how awesome the options will be! Why do I find this so exciting? Because after being Nissan brand loyal for almost 30 years I had to jump ship to BMW, a company that actually innovates and advances their vehicles. When it came time to trade up from my much loved 2009 370Z back in 2016, I of course looked to Nissan and you know what I saw? My 7 year old 370Z was materially no different from the "new" 370Z. No changes other than paint color options. Talk about stagnation. I had no choice but to jump ship and I've never looked back. So if you love your car, and it sounds like you do, dont fret about not having the best or the newest. Thank BMW instead for constantly innovating and then sit back and dream about how cool things will be when you are ready to trade up in a few years. But I will proclaim that my next car won't be a BMW, nothing to do with your reasons, I just prefer a Porsche GT car over the turbo crap BMW is making these days.

Don’t forget the F80 M3 owners who had 2 refresh cycles. Let alone the last one being the icon headlights and touch screen NAV. I actually waited out and very happy I did because I would most likely be in the same shoes as the OP.
If I were OP then I would just trade it in for a new M2 comp. I would take the hit especially if it has everything you originally wanted. Don’t get stuck holding a car you won’t be as estatic about and that will continually depreciate. You may be bitter at BMW but nothing you can do now. Get the new one. Trust me you will be much happier with the new seats, wheels, brakes, stiffness and power that the competition pack brings. |

I know personally I've been doubting my decision, having just taken delivery last month - but my car isn't any worse than it was when I got it! Time to enjoy it! |

I agree with DETRoadster's assessment.
After owning the last three generations of 3-series, I jumped at the chance of owning an affordable fun-to-drive M2 rather than waiting for the next 2018 3-series as they had grown bigger and less sporty. I wasn't willing to spend the money for an M3/M4. I originally ordered a 2016, but it had changed to the 2017 by build time. The pre-LCI M2 is sufficient for my use so I have no thoughts on trading it for the M2 Competition. |

I am really happy with my 2017 M2. I'll get some small upgrades to keep it fresh. (Suspension, exhaust, ect) Started saving already for the next generation in 4-5 years ;0)

I'm done with BMW, due to dealership experience. Bad experience with sales and services and taking to the gm did nothing.
Even enough I don't even enjoy/want my M2 anymore. Will probably take a big loss trading it in to a differnet company before I even get 10k km on it. Too bad, they lost a potential long term customer. |

If we look at it positively we have a better sounding car and we miss out mainly on seats (and the ho so important M mirrors). If I'd be tracking it often it might had been a bigger deal but, really as a daily the N55 is more than powerfull enough and sounds so great. |
