Saw my first G87 in the wild this week

Probably behind everybody else, but just have not seen one in person till this week. Was a TR, so one of supposed good colors, and found it in a parking lot so got to get a good look at it from all angles.
Have to say, and this is just my opinion, it confirmed my initial disappointment in the evolution. To me, it's just too boxy. It reminded me of one of those cheap wide body kits kids lusted after to put on their Supras from the 80's. The lines are just not good.
And not wanting to start an argument, this is just my opinion, I know it's more powerful, and probably better on the road than my OG. If you got it and like it, I'm super happy for you. But I wonder which one will be more desirable 20 years from now (if anybody is still driving an IC car then)?

Toronto Red makes it bareable for me, but not by much. I always pause before I say the phrase “I’ll never buy one” because minds do change and the future of BMW design looks bleak when looking at other models. The M2 may be the least offensive compared to what’s on the horizon.

I haven't seen one in person yet. I did see a 2 series and liked it, but I still like the old style better. This YouTuber in the UK, who I like to watch; has a frozen blue M2. This is the best color I've seen on the G87 M2 and makes it look much better IMHO. Unfortunately, the color is not available in the US yet (if it ever will be). After seeing this, this is the only color I would want this car in.

That video is an an advertorial. Same dealer as that Achilles bloke. Pretty obvious what is going on. All about making a living as a pro YouTuber though so fair play to them.

Funny saw my first today at my gym. Grey one. Rear still looks cheap and awkward
.
The front did look cool though parked so close to a barrier (sensors, ha!) that I couldn't actually see it properly.

It looks like it would handle and have a much higher limit than my car.
Quick interior peak without me looking dodgy and that screen sure dominates, looks like a workstation with an ultra wide monitor.

The m colours on the seats is overdone and looks cheap IMO. Bet it's a fun interior though.

I feel the same way, and side by side with the F87 there is just no comparison. We all know which will be more beloved in 20 years. The G87 is more utilitarian in nature, regardless of the numbers it produces.

I think the frozen PB color actually makes the design look even worse. It makes it look like a kit car.Especially the rear hip area where it looks like the panel was added on over top of the original body panel. The front wheel gap also looks terrible.

Exactly. The one thing you can't do to a G87 is make it a frozen or semi-gloss color because the styling actually gets worse. Best to choose black

I know this is all subjective opinion as you said, but I feel the design shift is so radical, that the buyer pool is just going to be radically different as well. We’re almost all BMW purists / enthusiasts, but that for me is based off the last 30 years…doesn’t mean that will apply for the next 30. Brands have their golden eras, just like bands, and all other forms of art / engineering. Just look at the gorgeous American muscle cars of the 60s / 70s…followed by decades of absolute garbage. BMW has made a radical shift, a management decision that may bring in a new buyer pool, but will definitely risk losing people like me. My CS and 21 M40i are likely my last modern BMWs, unless the company makes a massive shift back in the direction they were heading in years past…but I doubt that will come before we’re fully EV, and that’s why I’m likely to keep my CS forever. Sweet spot of enough modern tech, best of modern styling, before the butchering began. I also hate the big screen…I think all the gimmicky tech will age these cars and make them less timeless as well…a problem for me.

I think we all just need to accept the reality that BMW is largely a different company heading in a different direction…is what it is, I don’t have to love where they’re going to love where they were…and I always love 80s through 2021, no matter what they do to destroy the brand and product they built (in my opinion).

And all this talk about a better “all arounder” is exactly my point…that’s not why I bought my M2…if I wanted that, I’d buy an M5/X5M. Sometimes objectively better on paper is not better in reality…if it was all about the data / stats, just admit Tesla won and go buy a Model 3 performance. But as Joe Rogan said, it’s like microwaving a steak…cooks it faster than the grill, but just not the same experience…

The only way it looks good is when the paint is black/dark and you hide the car in the shadows...otherwise, its just 100% hideous and isn't growing on anyone. People that say the car is a good looking are in denial 100%

Yes, compared to my OG. If you look at some of the pics in the thread, that is obvious.

Saw one today - black 100% “helps”, but not a good sign when the car looks better in colors that hide its lines vs a color that accentuates them (like the MB on my F87). Front bumper looked better than in pics, but rear looked significantly worse. Side profile best, and aggressive stance was nice, but I need to love a car from every angle to truly fall in love with it (imagine if you were only attracted to your wife when she faced sideways and was wearing black?!…not a good long-term setup for you haha). On balance, better in person, but still just not for me…
