I can see some of you went in for the break-in service before the 1200 mile mark. I will probably have to do it at around 1000 since I have some travel plans after that. Does anyone know if that will cause any issues or not?

Had my 1200 break in service done yesterday.
I was advised that they changed the oil & filter and the diff oil. This was all confirmed on the invoice. They also sent me a little video during the service where they showed me tyre and brake wear levels - really good service. Apparently a top speed limit is removed as well (this is a new one on me, I think the service advisor made it up...) and he said on a DCT the launch control settings are enabled. I've heard this before but can't confirm as mines a 6MT. I must say the car seems a bit more "lively" I'm not sure if that's a mental thing though as I was taking it fairly easy before the service. It also sounds a little different too, more pops and bangs. I do wonder if they retune during the service...? |

I just had my break-in done. It was engine oil and diff oil. This thing is crazy fast and sounds amazing now that I'm not as shy with the pedal. I think the perception of it being re-tuned is just our inhibitions being removed now that it's "safe" to drive fast. I seriously am blown away by the performance, particularly at this price point. Amazing machine. It's meant to be driven hard with the windows down... I couldn't be happier.

You don't need to change the trans fluid after break in. Every dealer uses either XJ fluid or XJ Booster (both 75w-140) for the rear diff and whether they decide to give you a new drain plug for the diff or not is just depending on who pulled the parts.

Just dropped my M2 for run in service. The Service adviser told me that they change engine oil, Diff oil and the reprogram the throttle control. He told me that the throttle is reprogrammed to allow it to go 100% as it is lmited to 70% from the factory.
That's the first I've heard about reprogramming the throttle control. Is there any truth in this?

Yeh, I wasn't sure about them resetting the throttle control. I asked again when I picked the car up and was told that they reset the run in service alert on the iidrive and this activates the launch control on DCT and also resets the car to provide full power.

Do you guys think right before your break in service the car felt like it may lost some slight power? I'm thinking it's true due to the break in oil getting really dirty or that I'm just getting used to the power and it feels a lil slower?

When should do the 1200 mile service if it takes you a year to get there? I'm guessing by maybe like 6 months?

M2 Break-in
Quote:
Was having some friendly talks with a friend, and the topic of the M2 break-in came up. It seems from this thread that, the car comes with a built in rpm limiter (either 5,500 rpm or throttle cap) that auto disables at 1200 miles? And also they do the 1200 mile service, it also unlocks the 'burnout' feature. And the car keeps the normal rev limiter of 7500(?) and also the speed limiter of 155 (or unlimited if unlocked) Is that more or less accurate? Can't find any literature on it, TIA |

The consensus seems to be there are no software changes during the break-in. |
