I never drove it. Saw it in the dealership and bought it basically on the spot after sitting in it. Just wanted to see it in person first

I ordered an M240i because I couldn't find a reasonable deal on an M2. The ship it was on was just about within sight of the port when a buddy got me a hookup deal on an M2 that was in a showroom. I test drove the M2 and then it was mine.

Waiting for mine, never driven one.

Chris Harris' smile in that M2 vs 1M video was enough for me.

I never see the real car, just put down deposit, it is common for these kind of cars in Hong, Kong. No testing, you need to put down deposit fast.
My RS3 need to wait for 13 months, my M2 need to wait for 10 months!!!

I really think you have to be careful with journalist reviews though. I do feel many journalists are paid or heavily comp'ed. They are also heavily incentivized to deliver positive reviews to maintain relations with the manufacturer.

Think about it... The car doesn't have to be amazing. Just comp some journalists and restrict or prohibit test drives using volumes as an excuse. Flip side of this none of these guys really live with the car and instead drive it in ideal and / or track conditions.

Tinfoil hat off, I am just saying not to trust automotive journalism at face value.

My friend worked at Porsche Marketing, they pay everyone. Everybody else does the same.

Ordering Without Driving One...Dumb?

So, I was telling everyone my excitement about putting a deposit down for an M2...and I was asked, "How was the drive?" and "Wow, you must've loved it." I answered everything with, "Well, I actually haven't driven it yet." And everyone returns this response with a, "are you dumb face?"

Anyone else experienced this? And...can anyone make a comparison on to what it is like to drive it? Since I still haven't driven one.

I ordered before ever seeing one in person...

Still haven't driven one, but I've had other BMWs in the past.

There are some things so just know.

I have one on order, entered production this Wednesday, and I too haven't driven one yet either...

I was fortunate enough to get a ride in one from someone local that I met on this forum, and it did settle some of my nerves about basically buying a car without having driven it.

I figured that since every single review was positive, I couldn't really go wrong, and if I absolutely hate the car, I should be able to sell it fairly easily and only make a small loss.

The only negatives that I ever read about, were that the interior is a bit low-rent, and the ride was harsh. The LCI which I'm getting slightly improves the interior, but not much, and riding in the car here locally gave me a sense of how hard the ride was - sporty, but not uncomfortable.

I'm not really worried about buying the car without having driven it; I'm more concerned that I'm selling my current car in order to fund it, and I really love my current car!

Garage List
2018 BMW M2  [9.50]
I've seen / been inside two, started up one and revved it briefly indoor (and it had the M Perf exhaust - loud as fuck in a closed showroom...). Seen one other one in the wild a few times now.

Haven't driven one, but I've driven (briefly, 10-ish minutes each) an M4 in 6MT and an M3 in DCT. Both felt nice but felt large. Hoping the M2 is Goldilocks. Only really "worried" about suspension hardness vs. my current car, that and RWD in NE Ohio winter...

Never drove one before ordering, didn't even see one in person, no regrets except not getting the MPE. The dumb move would be buying a used one without test driving.

Closest comparison would be the M240i or M235i.

Ordered without driving or sitting in one. I saw it once at the LA Auto Show and that's it prior to purchase/ordering.

I think the concensus is... mostly due to scarcity, many many people ordered and bought without ever having driven the M2!

OP... Don't worry.

I wish I would of been able to test drive one. Not the easiest thing to do around here though. The most I was able to do was see one in person, sit in it, and just check it out.

Wow. So many great replies.

Currently in my Mustang, and the Mustang forums are run rampant with douches. So, it's amazing to post something and receive actually genuine, thought out, polite responses.

I was just worried, and don't want to have buyers remorse. I drove both the M235 (about two years ago) and an M240 (the day I put in my deposit). I was a bit worried. My wife told me to just go after the M2, as it would literally be the closest I'd ever get to an M4.

If the interior matches that of the M240, and maybe even slightly better, I can't complain. Ford's low rent interior is annoying.

Had a used one come in from the dealership. Guys just got his new M2 but with sunroof. Go figure. Test car was 2017 non LCI. Lucky for me he gave me an hour to test drive with my family. Great sales guy. I drove it around some straight roads and twisty ones. Being the dealership was in the city it was difficult to open it up. After returning i signed up for the 2018 anticipated to arrive in October sans the sunroof!
