Question for New owners with exec package.

Is the lane departure warning able to be disabled by default? I would hate to hunt through menus every time I start the car.

Also, are you happy with the exec package overall? On the fence about it and really just want parking distance assist.

I find it curious that you want one safety feature provided by the camera and not another. I've driven a euro version five series with the lane departure featured and I thought it was kinda cool. I certainly would find other less helpful features to defeat or code out first.

I don't own an M2 but I have checked it out.

If you like the reverse camera or REAR PDC, then as far as I am concrned, the exec pack is worth it for this feature alone.

Even if you don't even value the exec pack at all, the rear view camera at least legitimizes why there is an iPad stuck up on top of your dash 100% of the time.

[I'm amazed BMW hasn't designed a way for this to disappear when not in use or at least design it INTO the dash so as to not be so obtrusive by sticking it ON TOP of the dash ]

In other words, I would not have added this option package until I saw a car with it and now I would.

A Heated steering wheel is never going to be a negative.

I can't see even lane-departure-hate stopping this train ...

Check the box !

You can disable it with a button under the dash. I only really wanted it for the heated wheel. The rear censors seem off compared to some other bmws Ive driven. Not sure if it's the placement but wails into the "red zone" when I'm still a foot or two away from the object. I've gotten out and been like WTF I could've gotten way closer so now I'm not really relying on those.

The lane departure doesn't bother me and honestly everyone seems to be a distracted driver at some point or another on the road that it can't hurt having it.

I don't think the package is all that necessary in hindsight. I could've just added a Bluetooth cam plate trim but I also didn't build my car so I didn't have a choice.

Actually I think the iPad mini is permanently mounted for cost savings. My z4s had the pop up display and the motor failed twice. I think this was easier and overall cheaper to start mounting them that way. I'd rather not have it there. Oh well.

The driving assistants are very passive, it vibrates the wheel when you drift out of the lane and for the active collision warning, it shows a red car and primes the brakes. You don't notice them at all.

I'm curious about active collision warning. Will it no kidding apply the brakes if (my wife) is distracted and doesn't notice the vehicle in front of (her) stopping suddenly? I've seen the red warning a few times, but there's never been any intervention (thankfully).

What sensor controls this? I have Xpel front cap, hoping that doesn't effect the performance of this (potentially) great safety feature.

It brakes too. I have had 2-3 false alarms already where I need to change my underwear afterwards as the car just beeps like a maniac and slams the brakes out of nowhere.

I didn't even realize it braked until one night it thought I was too close and my car screeched. I changed the setting to "late" warning. Car can't be doing that stuff if I'm tailgating in traffic.

I'd much rather have the blind spot warning than the lane drift or collision warnings. Also top down camera.

It will apply the brakes if *you* are inattentive too ...

Exec pack annoys me. My current 2er has heated wheel but none of the other exec pack gizmos and I don't need them. That heated wheel though

As I mentioned above it will brake test you and your fellow road users when you least expect it.

I agree they are super conservative. My car starts beeping at me literally every time I pull out of my garage. It's kind of annoying. More importantly, the system has trained me to ignore the initial warnings. I decided to test out the system to see where I should start paying attention to it. The beep increases in frequency until ultimately it goes solid. Solid is where you need to pay attention, from my informal testing, that was at just under one foot of distance. The particularly important thing for me about this is that since I have a DCT which mostly behaves like a manual, one foot is damn close when you're trying to be precise about the last remaining inches. Unlike a manual where you can ride the clutch to hardly move at all, with the DCT, once you've come to a complete stop, the car sits in neutral and doesn't move. You must tap the gas to get it moving again. I can imagine that you must be damn careful not to launch into the wall from this state. It might even be worth it to left foot break or start over.

Does it not have a cutoff like the M3/4 (I believe it's 30MPH) where it will only beep and alert instead of intervene?

I've had it go off a few times in my M3 (all times that I can recall were false positives) and it never applied the brakes, but I was always moving faster than 30-40MPH.

Don't know, the quickest false alarm where it braked was around 70km/h - 43mph.

Distance plays a part (look at the car on the settings). Not sure about speed. I was under 10mph when it did it the first time.

Sounds scary! Was this during a lane change while close to the car in front? Curious the situation and if this feature can be disabled as well.

How often do you have the screen off though? I can honestly say I've never turned mine off on the e92. I'm not always using it, but I do have the car info on the right side of the screen. Always good to remind me that I'm getting 16 mpg and only have 220 mile range per tank haha

I see you can change the distance before warning. But can you just disable it?

Yes, I think there's a button under the steering wheel for that as well.

Well my 15mpg shows up on my display regardless but I would only turn the screen off if it retracted, otherwise why stare at a blank screen? Lol.

Yes, you can disable it but for some reason it is always on again when I start my car. The lane assist stays off.

I was just driving alone in my lane when it just went nuts. The sun just hit the camera so my guess is the sun tricked it.
