What would YOU do? I'd offer to buy the used car for at least 10% less or order new and wait.
A lot of people that said that about the 1M are waiting in line for an M2... :

This car is going into mass production next year

It is not going to be another 1M

It's value will drop like all other M cars, heavily

Nope. Even if what you're saying proves true, there still will be far less made compared to the M3/4.

Total of 1900 cars for the UK over the M2's production life.....allegedly.It's fair to say if these numbers are kept then the residual as a percentage will be much better than it's bigger brothers for sure.

Maybe he was just trying to seal the deal on my m3 purchase, but it was only passing conversation

I agree, but what is the ultimate source for the 1900 car limit claim? As we've seen with countless M2 reviews, lazy magazine writers tend to blindly parrot the same salient talking points from other writers. Production figures may very well be mere speculation or faulty extrapolation from early numbers. Also, when was that number originally claimed? When interviewed by Forbes as late as last Feb, Fröhlich unequivocally said that BMW will produce as many as the market demands. Probably not a good idea to set up financing that counted on a higher residual.

If anything, it appears that those numbers are promised minimums based on current production capacity. That is, without the necessary factory retooling which we also know they're trying to work in.

Fair point,that's why I've covered myself...allegedly

Seriously though this rumour is gaining momentum and a very respected source are quoting total worldwide and total UK figures here:

http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews...w-2016-bmw-m2/

Like you say it could be lazy, hazy journo talk but before this is the case and at the present time there's more proof for than against.

It'll hold its value well, but not like a 1M. Not to mention with facelift coming up in a year as well as the CS in the not so distant future, there's plenty to wait for

Do you think it will be possible to fit the new headlights to the car?

I see them making a claim, but don't see them quoting anything whatsoever?

You mean you don't think they'll updated the headlights at all?

They might offer full led as an option. It will be financially dumb to change the size cuz then you have to change the bumper.

BMW did it before on the E46 Coupe LCI.They changed the design of the headlights for the coupe but couldn't for the M3 because of the different hood and bumper. That is why the E46 M3 never received the updated Adaptive Xenon headlights that the regular E46 coupe was updated with.It was actually a good thing because the design of those updated LCI headlights don't look as good as the ones on the M3.I would be very surprised if BMW did the same thing and changed the shape of the headlights on the regular 2 series for the LCI.

Just heard back from the author of one of those UK magazine articles "quoting" that 1900-unit limit for M2s in that region. Turns out that figure was from pre-production way back last year and originated from BMW marketing. Since then, demand has become much more apparent and, of course, BMW has more recently stated they will be producing as many as the market demands.

IMO,there is no way that anyone can confirm these production numbers.Everyone will just have to wait and see how many cars BMW produces for 2016 and 2017.

The point was to know both the source of the numbers and when they were determined.
