I have yet to see the m2 do something the m4 cannot do, plus you get all the extra engineering the M4 has over the M2.
I agree with that statement..the bigger heavier M4 was only off by a few 10ths of a second on the willow springs racetrack driven by Randy Post. An M2 is nice but I'd be damn I give up my M3 for one.

Here are 3 right off the top of my head:

1. Size

2. Fun

3. Exhaust note

Can't see any, really? I think it's pretty obvious at this point that there are plenty of reasons.

Also, the 'extra' engineering you're referring to, I'm not really sure what you mean. Do you mean carbon fiber? The carbon fiber doesn't do anything magical when you drive, to get the M4 because of Carbon Fiber would make literally no sense, unless you just want to be able to say 'my car has carbon fiber', since the car is still 25 lbs heavier. Which someone could say and I wouldn't judge them for it, but the Carbon Fiber prestige means literally nothing to me.

Otherwise perhaps you're referring to the engine? I guess you could have a point there, but again, that's not a reason to upgrade for a lot of people including myself. The upgraded N55 is proving to be a fantastic engine with it's own character.

Again, just a little bewildered how you can't even see at least *one* reason to go M2 over M4. There are plenty of reasons to go either way, but it's shocking when someone can't see both sides.

Do you understand what I'm saying?
size..I can agree with..it's a big car.
Exhaust...Nothing a performance one can't cure.
But fun..come on man just look at every car review and look at the little kid that comes out when they talk about the M4/M3...
but to each there own.

Can't agree on that one. I drove an M4 with a performance exhaust just last week. Still sounds like a raspy bucket of bolts, only louder.

Seriously, it gets better when it's warm, and higher up the rev range it's nice and loud, but still not as good as a stock M2 exhaust.

I think that those of us who want to duplicate as close as possible the feeling they got from their E36 and E46 cars will lean toward the M2. Those who want a bigger car with mostly better numbers and all the "technology" BMW has developed since then will lean toward the M3/M4.

I know what camp I'm in.

Very likely. Waiting for an allocation.
I also had M3 and sold it due to no feel whatsoever. Just like you, I have a brand new GT4 which I find just about perfect except it's really not a daily driver ad I like to drive my cars as often as I can. Just like u I am looking at M2 as I feel it's the right size for me. Will need to drive it first before I commit, as every review I've seen so far talks about how bad the seats are. It's really important for me, cause I'll be using this car as my DD
Good luck man

Sure, but if you look at every car review where both are discussed, literally every single one has said that the M2 was more fun. Does that mean the M4 isn't fun? No. But it's a wide consensus says the M2 is more fun, you have a right to disagree and have your own opinion, but if you deny that that's what the consensus is, then I'd say you're wrong.

Good read OP. My GT4 is set for Euro Delivery in July. If you want to ever hang out with a couple other GT3/4 & M owners in the area drop me a line.

But are you seriously trying to say that you can't see why someone would choose an M2 over your car? Or are you saying that you personally wouldn't?

Hmm all depends on how you like to drive. If I had a GT4 and M3 I wouldn't know what to choose when I got into the garage!

I was reading articles and watching reviews about the M2 being a very easy car to drive. Easy to throw the tail around and get loose. I opted for the M3 for Three big reasons, looks better, more functional, and the simply the name M3. A lot of history, and class come along with the car. The M2 is a great price point to buy the car, but if you're looking to lease, you might as well just get an M4 or M3. I wouldn't mind having an M3, GT4, M2 and a X6 M sitting in my garage;-)

BMW makes great cars, but as a side note I have noticed in the last couple years they've cheapened a lot of materials in the car. The leather on my M3 is awesome, but other than that the dashboard, and interior controls seem very cheap. A lot of creaking and squeaking coming from them, and that never happened with my 2012 135i, or 2011 328i. All in all greatest daily drivers you could possibly own.

M2 or M3 you're going to have a blast!

I love the M2 it looks great, and the reviews re the drive are great, but I sat in one today and the deal breaker for me is the leather, probs not a big deal to others, but I can't stand that leather! it's the normal leather I think that's why, not the stuff in the M4, I don't know if I could deal with that and the fake carbon, they do look great though

Alex come on, there is no definition of 'more fun'....

There is no right and wrong here, it's about what you're looking for in a car....

It's real carbon fiber, it's just not gloss. I like the gloss better, but the open pore Carbon Fiber is pretty cool too.

Re read my comment, Robin. You'll see that I said you can say that the M4 is more fun and you can be right, but that the general reviewer consensus is that the M2 is more fun.

What an individual thinks is up to them and they are always right with their opinion.

I wasn't saying what you're making it sound like.

I've always been perpetrating that message, I'm not sure why you're assuming that now I am not.

When I'm (re)reading yor posts(and don't get me wrong I'm also getting an M2 in a few weeks so I understand) it's like you/we are in Court or something...

It's not a matter of laws or life and death man.

And I do understand what you're trying to say, don't get me wrong.

The problem is that "fun" and the accompanying subjective qualifiers are not measurable via traditional means. Like looks, that's something that's left to good natured debates at the pub.

The way I see it, "more playful" works for the M2, while "more planted" works for the M3/4, based off the totality of the reviews given thus far. But I have yet to drive the M2, so I will leave my own subjective spin out for the moment.

I'm not sure about the F80/82 being "more planted".It's well documented that the M2 won't turn round and bite you in the ass like it's bigger brothers.
Perhaps more stable within their own respective limits.

I'm saying that you are seriously reading too deep into these post..Take a chill pill.
I will say it again an M2 is nice but I will not run to the dealer ship to give up my M3 because the car is more fun.. An M is an M enough said on this.
