BMW does a great job of making a fun street car that also can be labeled track worthy car, where as the GT4 is a bit on the extreme side - spherical EVERYTHING makes the car a specimen on the track, but a bit too much for normal driving.

I was debating about test driving the M2 because I already have a GT4 but I'm glad I did because these cars are totally different. I ended up test driving a DCT M2.

I want to say I love the M2 and it's now one of my favorite BMW. The car is able to break traction which I didn't expect since it's lower power than the M3. I personally feel the weaker engine makes this car more balanced and it's not a bad thing. What really sold me on this car is that it's fun to drive. The car is agile much like my Lancer Evolution and Fiesta ST. It is able to dance around and much better on center feel and pointy feeling. The ability to dance gives the car a lighter feel than the M3. The M3 feels more stable and boring at the same time. Of course the interior feels downgraded most due to the non clear coated plastic looking carbon fibre trim. In reality I can care less about interior on a fun car. The truth is that this car is more fun to drive than my GT4. The GT4 is too perfect, too balance, no slop, and limits too high and hard to break traction unless you are at the track.

I give the car 5 stars. The good driving feel reminds me of the E46 of the old. This definitely should have been the improved in every way next gen E46 M3. The traditional M3 is back. Now if they make a M2CSL 3200lb version it would be perfect.

Forget to mention some cons but probably overall package is still worth buying.
1. Heavy steering. Wish they program it lighter on center and heavier when you turn to get ride of the electric power steering feel. However I find it much improved over the M3. I don't know if it's the foot print or they reprogramed the steering for better feel. Whatever they did it's better.
2. I can't get it to personalize the steering and the throttle and tranny. Being a turbo car we know what to expect. Basically I don't like the throttle on turbo cars. However, I find AWD cars acceptable since throttle mashing doesn't disrupt the car.

Nice write up brother but what do you mean by " I can't get it to personalize the steering and the throttle and tranny."

On the M3 you can go comfort on the steering, comfort on the throttle, and sport on the suspension. The M2 is already prepackaged, preprogrammed.

Wow better than the GT4 eh? Wow.

Thanks for validating what I've been convinced of all along that the M2 will really compete hard with Cayman GTS and 718 Cayman S.

An M2 CS (L) is needed to compete with the Cayman GT4. I'm totally ready
I just got back from the Porsche 2 day school at Barber Motorsports. I spent a fair amount of time in a GT4. It is a incredible car. I can only hope that my soon to be delivered M2 will be comparable, but I really doubt it. The steering in the Porsche is telepathic.

I've successfully avoided driving one and have therefore been able to keep from compromising my 1M obsession

At 85k, that's a different price bracket than a 52k -56k M2

I've had the M2 now for about 5 weeks and I'm almost at the 1200 mile point, so I haven't really opened it up much. But the handling is amazing in this car. I'll know a lot better how it compares to a GT4 after I get it on the track. I have high hopes. I can't see many cars being a better value for the money over the M2. At this point after driving both, I wouldn't have spent the extra money on the Porsche. It's an awesome car.

You really can't compare the two.
Both are amazing cars and like others have said the m2 is the far better daily driver being less stiff and having a way lighter clutch(almost too light imo) with that said the gt4 is the first car I've owned where the mod bug hasn't bit me. It has a really interesting racecar feel that the M2 lacks. Driving both back to back from my experience you'll want to make your M2 a touch louder, tighten up the brake pedal, make it corner a little flatter and figure out a way to retrofit those 918 bucket seats somehow someway

Well when I get my car back I've got my Catless DP ready, and another mod that will be the world's first

M2 is great but not even close to GT4 in fun and performance.

Plus, you cannot find one for 85k or even remotely close to that price anywhere.

I'm not going to turn this into a what's more fun between a MR or FR layout. Just personal preference and yes if the GT4 has a GT3 engine it would be considered a top 10 best cars ever. Funny thing is that the M2 also has a non special engine.

This M2 is one of the car that surprised me of being so good. I don't get that feeling on many cars. The Fiesta ST, FRS, 2003 Evo first released, 2017 R8 and 997 GT3RS (kinda expected but not racecar feel) were wow didn't expect to be that good Didn't get around to buy the 17 R8 and FRS/BRZ yet .

Performance I get that one, but fun? Define fun? A 500Nm M2 can break the rear wheel traction way more easily than the (magnificent, no doubt) NA GT4 can with its super wide reartyres. It's fun for me to balance on grip/slip in 1M/M2.

Offcourse a trackday at Nordschleife etc I'd gladly step into a GT4!

But irl conditions, rain/snow etc an M2 can be more fun imho than GT4.

Cheers
Robin
