Yes, that's engine braking. I thought you were saying the rev-matching caused less engine braking somehow. But yes, sounds like character of the engine and gearing.

The M4 behaves this way too. Some cars have noticeable engine braking on downshifts but the M4 (and, apparently, the M2) does not. Not sure the technical reasons why (maybe engine compression, turbo, etc).

I don't have these in my 981 and didn't have them in the 235 either - seems like a stupid omission.

I like grabbing it with my left hand whilst driving - it's nice to rest your elbow and hold the "oh shit" handle at the same time. No idea why this seems to be a diminishing trait on certain cars...

I think you are confusing a couple things.

When in DRIVE, i use the paddles to downshift for whatever reason. This automatically puts the DCT into sport mode S, not sport drive mode
I am new to DCT, so I would think it would allow me the gear change to do what I need for a few moments, then automatically return to the normal drive D mode.

That make sense?

"This automatically puts the DCT into sport mode S, not sport drive mode." Actually it puts it into Sequential Mode S and not sport mode S.

"...I would think it would allow me the gear change to do what I need for a few moments, then automatically return to the normal drive D mode." In non M cars with DCT it does do this. In M cars once in sequential mode you need to switch it to go back to automatic mode manually.

It will be interesting to see if some of the perceived shortcomings are addressed in LCI.

You are totally missing the point and don't understand the issue. The passenger side doesn't open even if someone touches the handle when the driver gets in. I believe it is to do with the side it detects the fob on only, not psychic powers

That is just a setting for which doors that will open.
If someone doesn't want all doors to open as a safety measure then it shouldn't open no matter what.

Or am I missing the point too?

Yet, when one posts a negative, people chime in telling them to get out of the forum.

You can't make this shit up. Some of you guys need your heads examined.

Not quite, I started this thread to hear about fellow owners about their initial impressions now they would have a few miles on the clock, and to perhaps help others with any issues they may be having ie. I hadn't found the digital oil temp gauge. We can finally draw on the general public experiences now. It wasn't for people to complain about whatever they have been reading on the Internet for the last few months as I think that has been done several times over.

Yes, people have explained how the comfort access works and I get it, one door or both only. My point was, it would be nice if the passenger door unlocks if they are trying to get in once I have touched my handle as the car has sensed the presence of the fob. Or stay locked if no one is there. That's all, not really a big problem. Let's move on.

ONLY the front door nearest the comfort access key fob opens when one approaches a door.

If you approach the trunk ONLY the trunk ( and none of the doors ) unlock.

The passenger side is ONLY set to unlock when UNLOCK ALL is selected or if you approach that door.

If you are steadfastly against using the " unlock all doors " feature, then perhaps give a second key fob to your passenger if you want the passenger door to open only when a passenger is with you.

This is absolutely a *you * problem, that 99.5 percent of owners won't have an issue with.

+1. I think that this is standard for Comfort Access across all BMW / MINIs, and not just how the M2 behaves. This is certainly how it works on my MINI Cooper...

The car is far more silent than my previous 1M, a little tire noise, but engine wise silence all over, until you push it off course (Sports +)

The clutch is the same clutch as used in all 1 and 2 series, its (too)light, and lacks some feel IMO, far more lighter than my E46 M3 witch had a rather ferm clutch, and needed some time to adjust to.

The gear change however is short and very very smooth, no rubbery feel what so ever, this is by far the best I have ever driven in a BMW

The auto rev matching when going down on gears is somewhat awkward, the is no engine braking left.

Mirrors and dash have been exlusively discussed here, but I do agree with major comments here on Bimmerpost

Steering feels fine and direct, car feels nimble, but not as the 1M, brakes are awesome.
I agree that the M2 is somewhat quiet in comfort, but sport and sport plus destroy the 1M. To me, the only thing that really made the 1M louder was the drone...which I miss very much and wish the M2 had it.

Bad news guys. It seems that the top of the front bumper, where it meets the corner of the hood above the headlight is misaligned... I noticed it from like 8 feet away... What do I do? The drivers side alignment is fine... The passenger side is not fine.

EDIT: God bless this material. After I installed the grills, I missed the passenger side plastic clip when reclipping the bumper.

Took out some screws, replaced the bumper, and boom, 100% perfect. Heads up to you guys installing the grills yourselves, don't miss the plastic clips on either end.

Recheck thread description - asking owners about positive and negatives. Neither of which you have been doing. If you just want to trash talk the car go to town, but don't expect a happy attitude towards it.

Found another one. When I use the fob to unlock the trunk, i was hoping it would actually pop up half way or something.

I've only had my car for 1 week, but I am missing the lack of moonroof. I really like having one to vent the cabin.

I would have liked a sun roof. Our cars are the exact same spec haha.

In sport+ steering is IMHO to artificial heavy ( I also found this when I test drove the M4, the comfort steering mode was the best setting for me)
