Wel that is a review, all I know is what I feel in my own car! I have driven a E46 M3 6MT with a difficult 2nd gear to apply, a E92 M3 6MT, better, but not flawless, rubbery for sure, a E82 1M 6MT far more better. Now the F87 M2 6MT has a gearbox witch is an evolution of the M3-4 6MT, that box is widely regarded as the best 6MT made by BMW. So with all due respect, I think I`m entitled to say the current M2 6MT is the best made by BMW. (that is not only IMHO) I`ve also driven several Honda`s in the past, such as the Honda CRX 1.6i 16V VTEC, it was an outstanding car, shifting real fine, but also with lack of feel. "Rubbery feel" ?
They got to specify two things: - what do they exactly mean with "rubbery feel" ? that it's giving way a bit, flexible or jumpy ? not slotting smoothly ? - more importantly: as test cars take quite a beating, how many reviewers have already tested (read: abused) the gearbox of the reviewed test car ?

6MT or DCT
I've ordered my M2 with the DCT because it will be my daily driver 9 months a year and to be honest I'm not quite good with a manual transmission (too afraid of breaking something so I lose time shifting gears).

Just test drove a DCT M2. Had a 6MT E92 before. As far as doing what DCT is suppose to it it was pretty spot on. Banging through gears in manual mode up an on-ramp is pretty sweet. And the rev-match downshifts is music. I did feel a bit bored at times though. I wonder if that was just me being a MT guy and need time to live in this new world.
The thing with DCT was rad and super fun when you're driving like an agro-maniac. I'm just afraid when you're not it's boring. Next up is looking for a 6MT M3/M4 to really compare boxes. Those with 6MT - How are you liking the auto rev matching feature? Does it take away anything? Makes it better?

It is a little weird in the beginning, but you get to used to it very quickly I takes away motor braking an my own involvement. I could do without it frankly, yes you can disable al electronic features, than you have to rev match your self. |

Can any owners tell me what rpm the engine spins at when doing motorway/freeway speeds (say 70-80 mph) for the MT and DCT? One thing I've disliked on some previous cars is the final gear being too short with resultant high engine rpm when cruising.

Heh, sounds like my E36 (not in a good way).
3k at 75mph sounds like 6th gear is a bit short. No overdrive? Edit: 6th gear is .846 in the 6spd, .844 in the DCT. 7th in the DCT is a further .671. Last edited by nishmaster2k; 05-06-2016 at 05:42 PM.. |

Depends what you're after from your baby M. For me as a long term DD with a fair amount of autobahn cruising the extra gear of the DCT is a big plus, the additional economy and lower emissions will help keep running costs down too (only by a little I'll admit! ).
This will be my first BMW and only second auto (an old 4 spd in a Mitsubishi FTO MiVEC - how things have moved on! ) |

In most places of the world it doesn't matter as much, but in Germany where on the Autobahn cruising speeds are 110+ miles per hour in the fast lane, that extra gear comes in handy on a long cruise. Once I was driving my Audi at 225 kph (140 mph) and a Mercedes S550 flew past me like I was stopped...I was hurt.
