Tire wear question
Hi All,
I am still going through front tires quickly - very quickly: Specs: Total weight 3558, 52% front bias. -3.2 deg camber, 0.11" toe, 700lb springs, front bar 4 holes out of 5, whiteline bars (I think), rear 1st hole Thoughts or advice? Thanks Ray |

What tires are you running and how many sessions out of them?

Tires are Goodyear Eagle Supercar F1 3r. 275/35-18, 32PSI hot. square setup. Pictures included. This is after 4.5 track days. Bottom tire in stack is corded driver front and the problem child, to was passenger front. Wheels are 10 or 10.5, well sized for these tires. My sessions are ~20 min long each. I will often run back to back sessions through the day - 40min total. Figure 3 of those, and the occasional take a student out...
I am wondering if I need to up the spring rate, camber is already @ -3.2 deg. This is a new car to me, and am still learning to drive it. Was pushing it harder as the days progressed. Ray Last edited by rbahr; 07-23-2023 at 01:32 PM.. |

If that's the outside front balding on both sides it looks like you need more camber. I think you want 0 toe up front, but the track alignment girus can chime in in that. I'd definitely rotate frequently if your running square with that much camber. Since the rear will run about -2 it should give you a lot more life by rotating.

My setup Tire size 275/35-18 square (non-rotatable wheel sizes) Camber -3.2º front / -2.3º rear Zero front toe Spring rt 784lb front / 682lb rear Bars M2 CS Racing front & rear both on soft I ran the SC3R at 35psi hot for 3 days/15 sessions and the front-right is about to cord so they're done. I admittedly wasn't driving appropriately the first 2 days—getting on throttle too early and dragging the shoulders, so they were abused. That said, I do think that the car would like a little more camber or roll stiffness to take advantage of the grip these tires can produce. Do you have any data/video or photos of your car mid-corner? Do you think your driving may be partially at fault? It's worth noting that some people have said the SC3R wears extremely fast for a 100 treadwear tire and seem to be prone to shoulder damage if not treated with care. Sorry for the large pics—but that should help provide some comparison along with the pic of the car loaded up. Lastly, not that it makes much a significant difference, but that weight seems optimistic. |

I just clustered my GYSC3s after over 50 heat cycles. I run 3.7 upfront with zero toe and 2.7 out back with tock toe. I never start on less than 28 cold and give them least two laps before pushing. Temps are a big variables and the summer heat will stress the tires more. 32 hot seems just a bit low, so I would shoot for at least 33 by the time you cools down and park your car.

Thanks,
I was running 3R's. The weight is measured. I managed to pull some weight out of the car - rear seats, changed out fronts, new front brakes, etc. I am also considering going up a bit in the springs: 700 --> 800, 600 --> 700 F/R, and go up a bit on camber. I have a new set of Nitto's on the car and head to LCMT tomorrow. Did not have time to make any changes. I was careful with the warm up of the tires, typically 2 laps before I started hammering it. But I was also on the track so much that they didn't really cool down. I will also track my tire temps - I had forgot my pyrometer home Thanks Ray |

Maybe try dialing up to -3.5F and go to zero toe up front.

Would you swap between track days or mid day during a track day. My thought is it would be best to change mid day if you start to notice aggressive wear? Then adjust alignment before next track day.
