2019 base

I’m a little confused. Is the the thought that the 2019 models will all have the S55 or will the S55 be in the csl or competition or whatever the higher performance model will be called?

So, if the the ~400 hp S55 is the new engine, why would anyone order an 18 model at this point?

-Ignorant of the change in the MY19 model
-they prefer the N55 sound
-worried MY19 will have big price bump
-don't want to wait (long lists already for MY19 so wait could be over a year from now)
-dealer mark ups on MY19 until 2020
-want Mineral Gray (MG going away)
-think N55 more reliable than S55
-just don't care/need/want faster car.
-want out of their current car immediately
-got discount on MY18
-MY19 not even announced yet and don't want to play wait and see with what it actually is
-too much money and will upgrade to S55 M2 later anyway

In my case
- don't want to wait a year
- can get a better price on an 18 LCI
- N55 has enough power for now
- don't want to pay more for 19
- wait and see and maybe upgrade in a few years as long as a 6sp is offered

Those reasons seem reasonable, I’m not sure I personally buy them.

There is always something faster coming out next year. And year after.

Yeah maybe, but there isn't something always faster that's RWD, or with a manual, or with hydraulic steering (already gone), or naturally aspirated, or non electric motor assisted, or not as big as a boat. So something you can get today (or the MY19 tomorrow) might be the last of something.

Agreed. And when the initial hype is settled and when the initial kinks are worked out I will upgrade if I get bored with the slow M2

Agreed. Also drive an S55 M4. Some hate the sound. S55 is an engineering success though - power is unreal.

Wait it is? Will they have a new Gray replacement? I'm hoping to get a Base M2 in about two years and definitely wanted it to be Mineral Gray or similar.

I'm ignorant but where was it confirmed that the S55 is going to be in the base? I'd imagine a modified B58 would make way more sense. How would the comp differentiate itself from the base if they both get the S55.

Dude don't you live near me? Only 1 MG/100mi is allowed.

If I upgrade to the Comp I'll be getting Hockheim so stay away from that too please thx.

The Comp is the new base. Please review multiple threads on the matter.

The ones with hundreds of posts that say different things? Not fair to the OP.

Are you serious?? Artemis does a truly exceptional job curating all this information. Post 1 of the big M2 Comp/CS thread has pretty all the pertinent info anyone could ask for. That doesn't even require using the dreaded "Search" button but merely a click of the mouse...

The info has changed quite a bit over the last year.Even the VIN decoder was showing the new updated M2 being called CS again a few weeks ago.Now the VIN decoder is showing Competition again. The original source on 2ertalk.de said the new model was called CS,for Competition Sport.BMW should just get on with it and release the info on this car.
