I'm 63 years old and wanted an M car for years, but couldn't afford one until the M2. My 2017 with manual shift is the last car I'll own. Instructions to wife = bury me in it.

The S55 based M2 looks amazing but I won't be trading any time soon as I'm completely in love with my M2 even if it has 'only' 365hp.
I will say that I think the inevitable price increase is a big bummer. The M2 is priced so nicely at 54K. |

I can't be bothered to pay the higher price, higher financing rate, long wait, etc for a marginal performance gain while trading off a lot that I like about the N55 M2. DP and a tune for under $1500 and off we go. Might wait and see how the next generation M2 fares and make a call from there. But if it's auto only then I won't be buying another new BMW.

This is when S55 400whp make a huge difference than N55 340whp. That being said, I'm not on the trade in camp. I ever want to move up, I move up to 992, which is the plan in next few years. What I find interesting is that this is a new version half way through the M2's life cycle. So are our M2's done or are they continuing to make them? Why would they do an LCI (normally mid-cycle) if this was the last year.
So they are likely to continue making them ....which makes them more of a classic IMHO. You can make your M2 your own with mods you do yourself (me) or buy the pre-pimped version.... There will always be the faster newer model....but really who cares....

I'd upgrade only to a CSL model with 6MT costing <$80k. I don't see that unicorn coming to fruition so I think I'll hang on to my civic M2.

S55 will certainly be faster but not without its drawbacks:
- increased weight (maybe 100lbs if I had to guess conservatively) - increased spool lag with only 3 cylinders driving each turbo - not so nice engine sound I certainly understand the allure and fascination with ever higher HP - it’s how we are conditioned to think since age 4. It is only natural to want to experience X car with even more HP. I have gone through that phase with a 600whp SC’ed C7. I don’t regret supercharging it and am glad that I experienced it. I also think I made a right decision to remove the SC after 1.5 year to enjoy the car in a balanced state. Since I am content with 400whp and 440wtq (on good gas) with simple bolt-ons and a tune in an FR car, the higher power potential of the S55 has little added value to me.

And the condition that I made was to get a 4 door sedan after F87 to compensate my kids getting bigger and possibly additional one(s) in our family plan. My wife drives SUV but she still say that I need 4 doors just in case family needs to use mine.. And I will need to teach my wife how to drive MT if I wanna get another manual transmission for the next car in case she needs to drive mine at emergency lol. |

380hp is a bit unreal for 340 unless it's called 345. Didn't remember BMW ever did a 60hp bump on paper in a same model evolution.
Closest thing is 330i NA's 250hp to 335TT's 300hp, but that's different models plus NA to TT. It's just nut to do 380hp.

Unlike many other cars I’ve owned, I didn’t buy this one to resell it. I could have had the dealer’s last allocation for 2017, but I waited until the day the LCI new equipment was confirmed and grabbed the dealer’s first allocation for 2018. The only thing I didn’t get was a new color, and I certainly didn’t want to lose another 18 months of ownership and driving fun waiting for whatever was next.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you like 6'4"? I have no problem getting my kid into the seat. I find it easier than our 4dr X1. I put one foot on the floor and have a great position to do up his harness.
