LCI ID6 Touch screen

Big question

Does anyone really use it?? I do love the ID6 better than the old drive.

Nah, there's no use in touching in. I just use the scroll wheel, which, feels alot better honestly. My old 4Runner had touch screen and it was just a pain to deal with sometimes

Totally agree, it's nice to have, to be honest I forget and use the wheel.

Initially I thought it was nice they added touchscreen to the LCI but when I finally took delivery I noticed I don't even use it. Maybe once. No fingerprints and the wheel work perfect for me

I did for a day. The fingerprints drove me nuts and it's a bit of a stretch to reach for a guy under 6' like me.

Touch screens in vehicles are an abomination. For the fingerprints alone they are virtually unusable. I use the wheel. Generally I am surprised how little I interact with idrive

Seems like the touch screen works better for the random passenger who is trying to do something and doesn't know how the buttons work.

The young generation is used to touch screens. Last Summer my 10-yr old daughter tried to swipe my 2016 iDrive screen.

"So, are you trying to clear the dust from the screen ?"

Even if I had it I don't think I'd use it. Like others, the fingerprints would make me insane.

It's also not in the most convenient place for a Tscreen. The location is great for keeping it in your line of sight, but that plus is a minus for a touchscreen location.

Will never use it...wheel controls and idrive controller are more convenient and I echo the sentiment about fingerprints...hate 'em.

I turn my screen off most of the time.

My OCD would have me hyperventilating to see fingerprints all over it.

1> using Carplay or Android touchscreen is better SOMETIMEs' with the BMW interface it is not needed
2> If BMW moved it up closer to the edge of the dash about 10-15 mm or so it would be easier to touch
3> I thought EVERYONE kept a microfiber cloth in their cars for fingerprints? I have one at home car and work for my phone... the screen is not different- as are the buttons 1-8 etc...
4> ID 6 is way better than ID 4 thats for sure- but still not as good as other systems specifically FCA and the new Fords- the screens on BMW are now 2000's "quaint" at 8.8" widescreen - look for the 2019 models and beyond to be much larger.

So true, it's also extremely distracting trying to operate them on bumpy roads.

Mine plays music videos while i drive.... easy to pluck youtube videos. I keep a microfiber in the glove box and just wipe off the prints from time to time

Mine does the same thing, plays music video clips from the USB drive all the time instead of boring maps. Some 720p or even 1080p videos from youtube are amazingly sharp on that small screen. Best use of the screen for IMHO.

I don't understand why one would do this. Does this mean I have now crossed over to being old?

I feel roughly the same, and I'm not even 40 yet (although I'm less than 5 years away at this point).

I even work in IT, so I know how to do all of this, and I'm fully capable of doing it... I just don't see the point.

I guess you can hear the music from those videos? But I'm driving the car I'm not watching a damn video.

I'm 65 years old and use the touch screen as well as the iDrive. Also an IT guy and geek, so not a surprise.
