I think those of you getting sore need to either adjust your seats differently or try working out once in a while
M2 has a fairly light clutch. I've not had any problems in 6MT, usually driving in bumper to bumper traffic trying to leave Manhattan. Longest trip was from NYC to WGI. No issues. |

I have some issues/pain after at least 30+ minutes of driving. For me it tends to be my right leg/knee. I figured it is how the seat is positioned although I don't notice it.
I have been in my Lotus Exige for 3+ hours a few times and have had no issues. Heck I have been in a lot of my prior cars for hours with no issue. All cars have 3 pedals only difference is the seat is straight on Gotta be that crooked seat |

For those that scoff and dismiss this as nothing I'd speculate these people aren't into details as much as others. Yes this is an issue for me too. This car has some ergonomic issues that cause fatigue due to the odd angles of the seat, steering wheel, and pedals and how they all relate. My biggest problem to the point where I'd consider selling this car is the steering wheel angle. My hands simply don't fall on the steering wheel in a natural position at 9 and 3. The angle forces my wrists to bend back too much above the thumb rather than remain in their natural posture. This causes real discomfort after a while and no amount of adjustments solves this. This simply should not be happening to someone who is 5'10" and 160lbs which is about as statistically average as it gets.

For someone who has had cramping issues in the past (when playing basketball, running etc) I have not experienced any such thing. I'm 6 foot tall and 190 lbs and drive the car an hour to and from work each day in what can be unbearable traffic.
One of the main cause of cramping his dehydration...so maybe drink more water? Sure helped for me. |

Well the cramps haven't been happening lately, but I was just wondering whether I was the only one.
DCT. Can this really all be due to the seat placement?

I experienced a little bit of that cramping just after I got the car, during my extensive European delivery driving. The car I had before had a weaker clutch.... Since the 3rd day of driving, I haven't had any issues, whether it's a quick in-town, stop and go trip or a multiple hour cross-country drive.

I'd say no, as it's your left leg and you have a DCT. Occasionally I used to get cramps in my lower leg (I'm a runner) when relaxing for some time. I realized awhile back, it was due to the toes of my feet facing/leaning downward. When keeping the toes more upright or slightly tilted towards the knee, no more cramps. When driving long distances, maybe you can give this a try.

I believe you when you suggest that you toyed already with all sorts of seat positions, but also try to experiment more with 'tilt' (whole seat angle changing). My seat is positioned at its lowest possible position + maximum backwards tilt (knees as high as possible). And when I head for a spirited drive, I move the seat a little closer towards the steering wheel + seat side-bolsters maximum inflated. I enjoy doing long mountain driving stints (up to 11 hrs consecutive - my wife wants me to be back for dinner and before dark). Just a few stops to take some pictures of the scenery while the car can cool down a little + fuel refill stop. Not getting out the car (or the next day out of bed) like a crippled person. Manual transmission. As good as 6ft tall (1m80). The fastest way home is a curved one. And as regards stamina Dackelone calls me a "machine".

Yes... Artemis IS a driving machine, bc he never seems to tire on our travels thru the Alps.
963mw I sometimes get cramps in my left leg too... when I drive my 135i brisk thru the twisty Alps. What I noticed is that it is my seating position... or rather that I am using my left leg to brace myself - as we drive briskly thru the turns. I also drive a manual. I think the only solution for you is to give me your car - to test my theory out! Seriously, try positioning your seat differently. When sitting behind the wheel(properly)... your wrists at the 12'O clock position on the wheel should be able to touch the steering wheel. Your shoulders shouldn't move off the seat while turning the wheel. Also your arms should be bent when at the 3 and 9 O'clock positions. Your legs should be bent slightly too. Dackel PS: My neck(muscles) also starts to hurt after a few days of driving with our small bunch of friends thru the Alps.

And apart from seat position, also experiment with the steering wheel position.
Indulge yourself by trying different seat and steering wheel positions compared to what you are used to. Not always easy to challenge old habits. Might be that you discover that you start to like a new position/configuration more than what you normally used to choose.

With regards to my seating position, I'm doing everything you said. After watching many videos in the past couple of years of Porsche instructors and drivers correcting the seating of auto-journalists, I've learned my lesson. Chris Harris has a video too on this seating.

I have this problem in mine. I think it's because the seat is too high, or not high enough. I can drive my old Land Rover for 10 hours and feel refreshed when I get out. The bummer I can barely go an hour without my legs cramping and my back aching.
I've tried hundreds of driving positions, but nothing seems to change the issue. In the Land, I sit more like a natural chair, and not a car. It's the one thing that I've hated about my last two simmers, the seating position is neither low enough, or high enough, it's some odd place in-between which my legs don't like.

Had cramping of my back and legs in my X6 and in my 650GC, but never in my M2. Amazing seats, and much better than my M3 CP.

This thread is funny......
Check your Calcium Level! I used to get bad sciatica when driving my '97 M3 for long trips. Found the proper position for the seat to minimize that. No other car has done that to me since, that M3 had the luxury package so it had the more comfy and wider seats. Dam, I miss my '13 A8's massage seats..... Mike PS. My RS6 gives me Face Cramps, come to think of it ,the M2 does to. Not so much in the Q7..not sure why....

Has happened to me when I went on a drive for 4+ hours, adjusted the seat so my left thigh isn’t resting on top of the left bottom bolster and hasn’t happened since.

Mind the Gap! (dashboard-windshield gap)
Just a heads up from something I recently experienced.
There is a very small gap where the dash meets the base of the windshield. It is only around an 1/8” or around 3mm at most at the opening and if I had to guess around 5” or so deep. It is large enough for a credit card or parking pass to slip through and not be able to be retrieved. Not sure if this only applies to LCI but maybe someone with pre-LCI can confirm if they also have the gap. Why am I bringing this up? I have my annual state park pass now completely stuck in this little gap. I can see it and push it slightly side to side with a folded paper but am not able to get it out. I had placed the pass on the outer side of my sunshade so that it would be visible and when I lifted the sunshade to its final position the card slipped right into the crack. It is not that big of a deal for me but figured if it happened so easily to me then it could also happen to one of you guys. I could see a scenario where a parking pass could slip into the gap unnoticed and then resulting in a parking ticket for not having the stub displayed or losing something more important that is placed on the dash. Absolutely love the car though and have learned a ton from this forum so hopefully by sharing this I can save a few of you a headache later down the road! So next time you place anything on your dash, don’t forget to “Mind the Gap!”
