I've just bought a 18 at a good discount $2500 plus staff cost on winter tire pkg.
There's always something better and as I was able to get a sunroof, manual, and updated interior, exterior tails etc. the car will be worth it. Plus it allows me to play with it this summer and see what that relationship holds... |

ALL will have the S55 (maybe there, but not at first glance....) let's go back to the OP's question and I'll bold it for you guys "I’m a little confused. Is the the thought that the 2019 models will all have the S55 or will the S55 be in the csl or competition or whatever the higher performance model will be called?" Ultimately, you guys may live on this board, but not everyone does - and to expect someone to go through 1,400+ posts to try and figure this out and then give him shit when he doesn't is BS. I am on here a bit too much and even I didn't know the base was losing the N55 until recently - because it just isn't clear in the thread - sorry Artemis, I'm just tone deaf

I guess BMW is working on the new M3/4 so it is not afraid to share the S55 love in its last year. Last edited by DOMs335D; 02-14-2018 at 08:46 AM.. |

Am I correct that the consensus is that the N55 engine sounds better?
Also, can't you tune the N55 and increase HP? If so, and you'd have better sound, wouldn't the current engine be pretty comparable to the S55? I have LCI M2 on order, in Mineral Grey, and I don't want to wait even longer, and not be able to get the M2 in Mineral Grey, if that is a confirmed fact, that BMW is dropping that color. Hey, the current M2 is a BLAST to drive, so I won't win as many stoplight races as I would if I waited for the new engine... not what I'm into. |

I plan to try and drive the M2 this weekend - I am curious to see what the butt dyno tells me about the N55 M2 vs. ZCP F80...

Please explain. Is it because of the spool lag? My friend rented a new M3 for 2 weeks out in Cali and he told me it *felt* slower than my M2 and his E92 M3. I told him it might be due to the shitty Cali gas but he was not convinced it was the only factor.

Size matters too. Smaller cars "feel" quicker. Then again sitting lower helps as well and I do think the M3 sits you a little lower. This is why I basically tell people never to buy a car for its power or top speed. You don't get to use it in everyday scenarios and even when you do, you just get used to it, leaving only the character of the car and its response as the satisfying aspect in daily driving. For that reason I found the S55 unappealing and probably still will when it comes in the M2. Big fan of the B58 though and looking forward to what M does with it.

I think some of what stefan says is true (well most ) - the smaller car often feels faster -and BMW has changed the S55 recently to make less torque down low because NOBODY was able to get the car to hook up. So no, I'm not at redline much and yes, the M2 was a better DD in stop and go traffic from the power perspective per my butt

I don't know, at M school I thought that when you had your foot to the floor, it was pretty clear the M3/M4 was faster. At low speeds and off-the-line the difference may not be as dramatic.
