I hear ya man!! I've always loved cars. From the time I was strong enough to walk and pick up a tool, I was handing my grandpa tools and learning about wrenching on cars. I fell in love with BMWs after I bought a 10 yr old E36 M3. Fast forward a few years, I picked up photography and videography and now own a business offering photography and videography services with a focus on the automotive community. My 335i build is a company car which I sponsor and occasionally track. I get to follow my passions of photography/videography and motorsports, make a little money and write off the expenses!! It works out well.

Ok so here is a stupid question: and yes I don't know the answer - how the heck do you get these quarter windows out on an f8x chassis ? The trim is off , everything is removed , there's no bolts (a la e46 ) etc . Trying to get them out (as well as everything else ) without breaking it ) and we are going to replace these as well as the door glass with Lexan ?

TYSP33D the glass is glued in. Typically you can take a thin wire and start at the corner and run it between the glass and body to cut the glue out.
You always run the risk of breaking it, so might be worth calling a auto glass company that does it all the time and let them do it. That way if they break it they have to replace it lol. |

Curious about the tubing you found in the roof. Does that qualify as the type of roll bar needed for the race car build? Or can that framework be used as part of the roll bar so you could save some weight there?

More than likely the glass company that comes out will say it may break as they may get it out. Glass companies are usually there to replace glass that IS broken, so if they break it in the process of removing it, they very likely won't be buying it. This commonly occurs when repairing-replacing a quarter panel on many ( read:most) vehicles. Insurance companies pay for glass broken by shops all the time. Ask me how I know! |

I never put a thread up on that. Just a few pics here and there. This is a much more dedicated build than a basic gut and bolt in cage job like I did.

Tiv- Thanks so much, that is very generous of you! I will definitely reach out via PM! I have a few specific questions I am sure you may be able to point me in the right direction! To answer a few of your other questions folks: Suspension Is going to be custom made for us by ANZE suspensions, utilizing PENSKE dampers. Thanks for All the input on the window glass! We are having a 3rd party glass guy come out ASAP to remove windshields F+R, and the quarter glass, and I guess as they say- If it breaks, it breaks! Today We made some good progress and removed the A/C System forward of the firewall, a whopping (and FREE!) 22 LBS! We also removed side curtain airbags+bracketry, and was able to relocate some of the wiring that was in the ceiling, in preparation of removal for installation of RKP Carbon roof from IND Distribution. Headlights were removed as we plan to have the lenses' duplicated in CF or Fiberglass- and we are going to use the passenger side as an inlet for the turbocharger We also just got word that we are getting support from APEX wheels, CSF Cooling products and a yet to be disclosed brake manufacture!! WE are VERY EXCITED to be working with some of these top brands in the industry!! Here are a few pics of the further tear-down from this snowy day here in NJ! |

If You removing the headlights, it may be the perfect place to get front brake cooling from. As there is not much room to get by around the front radiator and coolers.
We have a nice solution for diff cooling. Did not worry about trans cooling in our build. There was no need for the school these cars built for, but is is easy as it all ready have cooling. You can just add more in line... |

You make it seem like the owner of the car and or business is spending magical money that just fell off of his money tree and subsequently landed neatly into his wallet. Last I checked bud, to spend money you first have to have earned it somewhere. Rant over! |

I have a friend who bought a motor home that came with not one, but TWO SPEC E30 race cars because the guy had prepped all the cars under his business. When his business folded he had to liquidate it all. One of the cars was running.. and the other was a nightmare care that my friend could not get running. |

@TYSP33D you are really focused. I don't see one circular wet impression anywhere! This must be the first beer-free build I have ever come across.
Keep the pictures coming please! |

I'd be interested to hear how the cooling on the diff holds up under track use. Not many people here document that.
That said TYSP33D let me know if you need any help on the coding side of things. There's quite of bit of items on the DSC/ABS module that one should code for a dedicated track car

Awesome!
As we all await the next "big reveal" from BMW, this is easily the best thread on the board. LOVE the concise explanations and the fantastic pictures. Sorry to say, but I hope the weather continues to be lousy for you so we can keep getting frequent updates on your progress. Good luck and thanks!

Thank you for mentioning this- so this is one of our biggest worries. Boy you should see how pissed off she is as she sits right now- If you leave the key on to move it I think the check control messages roll off for about 15 minutes straight Would love to hear if/how you can help us with some of this so I will shoot you a PM. As far as differential cooling goes- I will be monitoring all of this via AIM data system, which we will obviously integrate via PT Can, and be able to monitor all cruicial temps. One thing we are questioning is the removal of a few of the auxiliary coolers equipped on this car, for spacial and weight reasons. It may just be a case of trial and error |
