Hmmm includes M performance models. I wonder how much of M sales is M Performance models? Slapping a badge, a tune, and a steering wheel on a BMW seems to move units!

Unfortunately it does, as soon as MB started doing this with AMG it was clear that BMW would follow suit. Not a fan of the use of M on anything other than a full M car but we don't get a vote.

The M2 Sedan would be the perfect iteration of a car for me right now!!! Why OH Why don't they have this already?... It would spank RS3's all the way back to their mutter. I would buy 2... well maybe

Perhaps with strong sales BMW might stop trying to keep the M2 pegged back behind the M3/4.

The next hole in the M line up is the lack of an RS4 equivalent, ceding the entire fast-estate market to Audi. Maybe in the US an M2 Sedan would sell better than a proper M 1-series and M3 estate, but I doubt it would do so well in UK/EU markets. Of course, best of all would be to make all three! |

Same for S-line in Audis. Just a technique to drive sales and fool wanna be's. Why not just put M5 badge on every BMW? Sales would soar! Mike

BMW didn't build an E46 M3 four door when they had the chance after creating the E36 M3 sedan for 97-98 after many bmw cca members complained. They have continued to ignore the small sports sedan market ( that they practically invented) and tried to funnel sales into the 3 series as they have stubbornly refused to make a 1 Series sedan and also a 2 series sedan. Mercedes has beaten the PANTS off BMW in this segment with the CLA ( a car that is actually a SEDAN ONLY ) , causing BMW to lose the sales crown in the luxury small sedan market despite trying to blow out sales on the 3 series by bringing in a cheaper 320 below the 328. And now, the dolts at BMW AG are finally attempting to ready a smaller sedan to market with their THIRD GENERATION 1/2 series but they plan to make it FWD/AWD. |

People that are newer bmw fans don't realize that bmw did this THEMSELVES originally and have done this since the 1980s. Research M technic for E30 and E36. Look upBMW M535 and BMW M635 The E46 series used the 'ZHP' option group , which basically was an M technic/M sport model. BMW has used the M badge to highlight sportier models for almost 4 decades now. If using the M badge helped market vehicles in the 1980s what's wrong with doing it today ? |

The better M-Performance comparison with Audi are the "S" models (Audi S3, S4, etc.). |

I get nervous when everyone starts pouncing on BMW for not making a sedan. I don't disagree with you, but my concern is BMW finally got a car right (for the most part). I don't want them to take their eye off the ball and go down the rabbit hole of pleasing everyone and their products start to suffer or get neglected more than they already have been.
I'd be fine if they roll out a small sedan for the next gen of cars, but please BMW, I beg you, don't go and f**k up the good thing you have going now! |

It's taken 11 years since guying my Z4MC for BMW to make another car I've wanted to buy, and with the exception of a hotter M2 I can't see anything in the pipeline that will make me buy another. |

The "hot hatch" segment is on fire. I would definitely have ordered my incoming M2 as a hatchback variant had I the choice. This would make up for, to a large degree, the absence of a small 4 door sedan in the overall lineup.
For some reason, a lot of car makers think that the US is not a good market for hatchbacks and small sedans. I don't actually believe that this is true, but of course if it isn't offered, you can't buy it, so it won't show up in sales figures.

The more time they spend on making multiple models, the less time they spend on making existing models better. Also the more tooling charges and higher assembly costs, which only causes the prices to raise. I think they need to stop it with all this grand coupe bullshit and stop trying to appeal to everyone.

BMW is producing multiple models from the same platform, which actually helps by allowing the development costs to be amortized across those many models. It costs them less to create an additional model using an existing platform ( for example a 4 series gran coupe and a 3 series GT on the 3 series platform ) than it does to design and produce a new model from the ground up. Consider something as simple as "Pringles potato chips ". It's easier to create 25 different flavors of the same chip than it is to create a whole new style of potato chip. Yes of course there is money spent developing each new flavor however the costs of production and packaging are nil because the company is simply using existing manufacturing processes. It's exactly the reason that currently bmw builds multiple vehicles off multiple platforms. The X1 and the Mini share platforms for example. It's very little additional development needed to make an X2 off the same platform. If bmw needs to make say 20,000 of each item ( let's say an engine ) for the X1, producing another 10,000 of the same item for an X2 is a lot easier than designing a completely new item. Regardless of the product, Production costs usually decrease with volume. If a motor costs $7k to develop each of 20,000 units, the unit cost per motor will be cheaper with 30,000 units made , and that allows you to produce each individual vehicle for LESS. |

If there is a reason for any buyer to want a more compact vehicle than the M4 ( which is why bmw makes an M2 ) then why would buyers also not appreciate an M2 sedan. If bmw hadn't BEGUN by making small sport coupes and sedans of course this would make a little more sense. But they have abandoned the E30, E36, and E46 sedan buyer. Nearly all manufacturers have increased the size of their model lineups but most have tried to bring in models below their bread and butter name plate https://www.ispot.tv/ad/wuFP/2018-ho...with-every-era Consider this Honda commercial which shows the car changing from a subcompact to the massive full size car it is today. Honda initially brought in the Civic line and then has also developed the Fit to replace the small cars that they originally made that were the size of the original Honda accord. Mercedes , Lexus, audi and others have all done the same. For the US however BMW has failed to make a small sedan for a decade or more and there is a glaring hole in the lineup you can drive a CLA, IS, or A3 through. |

if i wanted an M3, i would have bought one already... my interest in the M2 vs M3 has nothing to do with financials. why would I want a bigger car with a fart exhaust? :
