More Infos about the coming engine switch to share ... it would be a little bit later (MJ.2018) and with an moniker change (M2 to M2CS), but the real info would be the same :

I'm reading the article like it's still speculation, am I right?

Most articles that I found were hinting about a CS/CSL model for racing... Who knows.
This article is talking about a Z5 Coupe with 400 hp, which could be an M. http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-sho...s-and-details/

This thread topic is being deciphered as gospel by far too many. If it weren't for our 1st amendment right, admin/mods would remove it as there is no factual information from BMW AG regarding the S55 usage in any upcoming M2, at least any Civic M2.

So according to Bimmertoday article (I haven't read it), the M2 will be produced for MY 2016 and MY 2017 and perhaps MY 2018. After that, the M2 CS only (with S55) will be in effect. The CS will be mega bucks and extra limited availability if the article holds any water.

I had to use Google translate as I don't read german but from what I can understand it is just speculation and they even talk about the end of the regular m2 for 2017MY.:

I have no doubt that the M2 will not be produced for a whole 4 years !!!!!!! Or it will get a 4 cylindres engine twin turbo !!!! A very personal opinion with respect.

Is MY2018 such as the M2 LCI getting produced? Seems strange that MY2017 would be the end since they are supposedly testing the M2 LCI which was reported to be MY2018

Sounds like the M2 CS will be about double the cost of the regular M2?

2018 m2 lci with s55 would be awesome.
I could care less for 100k hardcore m2 cs. Not within my budget plus I could think of multiple 6 figure cars I'd pick before m2

Feel free to check out this 'old' thread (February 2016) kindly hinting towards an M2 CS scheduled for MY2018 (i.e. late 2017): http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1228342 ("Let's discuss the M2 CS rumor").

If that would happen - it won't IMHO - there's a chance that the 2016 and 2017 M2 will become limited edition collectibles and change hands for more cash than MSRP in the future.

Since I started the list at my dealer two years ago I had a feeling the M2 would only be a two model year car. I have no basis for that other than a gut feeling.

My guess today is M2 MY16-MY17 and M2 gts or CS/L for the end of 2018 and early 2019. That car being similar to the GT350R in that it will be very limited and sold for really only a year but listed as 2. trickling until the New 2 series comes out, then the M240i based car, all of this ending with a full M model for 2020-2022.

I still don't think the people saying the M2 won't be limited vs the M3/M4 counterpart are wrong.

I'm also completely biased. And aparebtly chock-full of atrocious grammar tendencies.

It looks like it will be best to put a refundable deposit for the MY '17. All the dealers I contacted have a wait time of 9-10 months. At least that way you will be on the list. If the car production is killed after '17, well then at least you own the M2. If not, then can always rescind the '17 delivery and move on and place order on the '18. I believe dealers should be willing to do that as long as you buy the car from them. Even if the car '17 car is ordered and already at the dealership, they will easily be able to sell it.

Yeah I've had my M2 for almost six months already. Although I'm hoping its cutoff at 17 I still want to see everyone that is ready and willing/got on the list to buy it get their car.

What I don't want to see are cars sitting at lots for months with nobody to claim it. I don't want the car to be THAT available. That may be selfish but if I'm honest that's how I look at it.

The core M4 buyer doesn't want an M2 anyway. The M2 is too small and not luxurious or prestigious enough.

exactly (minus the prestigious part for me....but i get it). i originally cross shopped a 435 and m240. the m240 wasnt the right size for me. then when i was going to go with the 435 the m4 caught my eye so i stepped up and got it. the m2 was never even considered simply because of size.

I have to say it would be really sad if regular M2 production was stopped in favor of a crazy expensive CS. I get there is overlap in price between the M2 and M240i, but so there is between the 3/440i and M3/4.

BMW already tested the waters with the 1/M. The M2 should be what the M3 was, well balanced yet affordable enough, awesome to drive and available enough. Keep limited production for the special editions.

I agree,

As much as I would like a CS I'm ( I imagine the CSL will be too hardcore for my tastes ) not going to spend crazy money for bragging rights.I'd go an additional 15K Anything over and other models start to look attractive.

Also I can't really see the reason for BMW to stop production of the " regular " M2 when it's doing so well for them.Surely they'd be biting their nose off to only offer a high end version to a select few who had the prerequisite deeper pockets to acquire one.
